Cody Garbrandt gets tattoo to commemorate bantamweight title win

You don’t have to look at Cody Garbrandt for very long to deduce that he’s a tattoo lover. The undefeated bantamweight, who swiped the divisional crown from Dominick Cruz in December, has the majority of his torso and even his neck inked up. He’s still getting new work done, too.

On Sunday night, the new champ took to Instagram to share footage of his newest piece, which appears to be on his left calf. This piece, shows a UFC belt superimposed on a hand grenade, accompanied by the words “A Promise Kept.” See it below!

Obviously, this tattoo commemorates his title-winning defeat of Cruz, which went down as one of the biggest upsets of the year 2016. The words, meanwhile, are likely in reference to Garbrandt’s promise to Maddux Maple, a young leukaemia survivor who he promised that he would win a UFC title.

With his thrilling defeat of Cruz, which was complete with plenty of in-cage bravado and showboating, Garbrandt extended his UFC record to 6-0. In his first five fights in the Octagon, he TKO’d Marcus Brimage, decisioned, Henry Briones, then delivered back-to-back first round stoppages of Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida and Takeya Mizugaki. With these impressive Octagon wins, he extended his overall record to a flawless 11-0.

Garbrandt’s first challenge as UFC bantamweight king will be provided by TJ Dillashaw, a former champion who he used to train alongside at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California. Before the two bantamweight stars are locked in the cage together, they are coaching a season of The Ultimate Fighter against one another.

What do you think of Cody Garbrandt’s new tattoo? Do you think he can defeat TJ Dillashaw? Sound off, PENN Nation!
