Felice Herrig retires following submission loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC Vegas 56 (Video)

Felice Herrig announced her retirement from MMA immediately following her submission loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz at today’s UFC Vegas 56 event. Herrig (14-10 MMA) returned to action for the first time in two years this afternoon for a rematch with Kowalkiewicz (13-7 MMA). The pair had previously met at UFC 223 in April of 2018, with the ‘Polish Princess’ emerging victorious on points.

The Octagon remains in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 56 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Alexander Volkov vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Volkov (34-10 MMA) will enter the contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a first round submission loss to Tom Aspinall in his most recent effort. Prior to that setback, the former Bellator champion was coming off a decision win over Marcin Tybura at UFC 267.
Tony Ferguson says he'd beat Charles Oliveira with a "real" training camp

Tony Ferguson believes he’d defeat Charles Oliveira in a rematch if he had a real training camp. Ferguson and Oliveira met back at UFC 256 in December of 2020 and it was the Brazilian winning a one-sided decision. However, after the fight, Ferguson made it clear he didn’t have time to train properly for the bout as it was short notice. With that, he didn’t train grappling and now he has taken to social media to say if he has a real training camp he would beat Oliveira if they were to rematch.

UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon has stated that his next fight could be his last. ‘J-Lau’ was last seen in action in October 2019, stopping Jonathan Pearce in the first round. Following that bout, many questioned if the 38-year-old was retired. He had no bout announcements for nearly three years, before being booked against Donald Cerrone.

Mike Tyson has given some advice to Conor McGregor on who he should fight next. McGregor is currently on a two-fight losing streak after suffering back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier. ‘Notorious’ and ‘The Diamond’ had their highly anticipated trilogy fight at UFC 264 in July of 2021, where the Irishman suffered a broken leg. Since then, he has been rehabbing and it’s expected he will return sometime by the end of this year or early next, but his next opponent remains uncertain.
Former UFC title challenger John Dodson signs with BKFC

John Dodson is the latest ex-UFC fighter to join Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. On Friday, BKFC took to social media to announce they have signed Dodson to a multi-fight deal. The date and who he will fight in his debut is uncertain but he will likely compete in the bantamweight division which is 135lbs, the champion of that weight class is Johnny Bedford.

Chael Sonnen seemingly agrees with TJ Dillashaw’s criticism of UFC rival Cody Garbrandt. TJ Dillashaw has met Cody Garbrandt in the Octagon twice. In November of 2017 at UFC 217 Dillashaw (18-4 MMA) defeated Garbrandt (12-5 MMA) with a second round knockout, reclaiming his UFC Bantamweight Championship. Meeting again in August of 2018 at UFC 227, the result was much the same, Dillashaw finished Garbrandt via first round TKO, defending his crown.

Dustin Poirier is speaking out about how it sucked to see Nick Diaz look like a shadow of his former self at UFC 266. It was Nick Diaz (26-10 MMA) vs Robbie Lawler (29-15 MMA) in the middleweight bout back in September of 2021 at UFC 266 in Paradise, Nevada. The outcome was Lawler defeating Diaz with a third round TKO.

Brian Ortega has opened as a slight favorite over Yair Rodriguez for their July 16 UFC Long Island main event. Ortega and Rodriguez are set to meet on July 16 live on ABC in a crucial fight for the featherweight division. The winner could very well get a title shot and on paper, it seems like a close fight and the oddsmakers seem to agree. On Thursday, the opening odds were revealed and it saw Ortega as a slight -150 favorite with Rodriguez as a +130 underdog.

Henry Cejudo has blasted Aljamain Sterling as he claims the reigning UFC bantamweight champion is ducking him. After Sterling became the bantamweight champ he hinted at a matchup with Cejudo and that talk only increased after ‘Triple C’ announced he was back in the USADA testing pool. However, after Cejudo and Sterling did a face-to-face sit down on Daniel Cormier’s YouTube channel ‘Triple C’ claims ‘Funkmaster’ stopped bringing up his name for a reason.
