Fight Night Pittsburgh came through with a night of fights as advertised. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Alex Oliveira capped the night of fights off in a main-event showdown of Cowboys.

A welterweight bout between Donald Cerrone (29-7 MMA) and Alex Oliveira (14-3-1 MMA) served as the main event for tonight’s ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Cerrone lands a right hand to start. Oliveira clinches up and lands two good knees to the body. He presses Cerrone against the fence. Alex is working knees from the clinch but Cerrone forces the break. Oliveira with a shot to the body. Cerrone presses forward and tries to lock up with Alex. Oliveira shakes him off and lands a right hand. Cerrone shoots in and lands a takedown. He moves to half guards and presses forward in to mount. Cerrone rolls and locks up the triangle choke. It’s all over. Oliveira is forced to tap.

A middleweight bout between Derek Brunson (15-3 MMA) and Roan Carneiro (20-10 MMA) served as the co-main event of ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ tonight in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Brunson throws a leg kick that misses. Another leg kick attempt misses for Brunson and Carneiro presses forward with punches, nothing lands flush however. Good left hand from Brunson. Roan comes in with a good kick. Both fighters throw some bombs but nothing finds a home. Carnerio with a huge swing and a miss and ends up on the ground. Brunson with some heavy ground and pound. Huge shots. The referee finally steps in and it is all over.

A bantamweight scrap between Cody Garbrandt (8-0 MMA) and Augusto Mendes (5-1 MMA) took place on the ‘UFC Fight Night 83′ main card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Garbrandt comes forward with punches. They miss but he follows with a good body kick that lands. Good right hand from Cody. Mendes is struggling to find his range. Nice overhand right scores for Garbrandt. Nice right hands clips Mendes who falls down. Cody rushes in but gets his arm caught almost instantly when entering Mendes’ guard. He is able to pull his arm free and stands back up. Cody comes forward with big shots. But Mendes lands an uppercut. Cody comes forward again and lands a left hook followed by a right hand that sends Mendes crashing to the floor. Garbrandt with one more punch and the ref calls it.

Featherweights Dennis Bermudez (15-5 MMA) and Tatsuya Kawajiri (35-9-2 MMA) went to war on the ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ main card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Bermudez moves forward and throws a front kick to the body of Kawajiri. Good leg kick from Bermudez. Kaajiri just misses with a spinning back fist. Front kick from the veteran Kawajiri. Bermudez takes the back of Kawajiri and gets him down to the ground. The Japanese veteran slips out and winds up on top. Bermudez is hanging on to the left arm of Kawajiri. Tatsuya gets his arm free but Bermudez scrambles and gets back to his feet. Kawajiri working hard for a takedown but Dennis is defending. Tatsuya keeps the pressure on and eventually drags Dennis down. Bermudez fights his way back to his feet but Kawajiri picks him up and tosses him back down. Dennis pops back up to his feet and the horn sounds to end round one.

A lightweight bout between James Krause (23-7 MMA) and Shane Campbell (12-4 MMA) kicked off the ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ main card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Krause catches a kick from Campbell but can’t get him to the ground. Krause presses Shane against the fence and eats a knee from Campbell. Shane now with double under hooks on Krause and searching for a takedown of his own. James breaks free. Front kick misses from Campbell and Krause shoots in for a takedown. He’s stuffed by Shane. James throws a nice right uppercut that lands. Good combo from Krause and he follows those punches up with a stiff jab. Campbell answers with a kick but Krause returns fire with a big punch. James has Shane pressed up against the fence and lands a good shot. They break and Krause lands a body kick. Good shot from Campbell. They tie up. Good body kick from Shane and then a big left hand. Krause shoots in and gets a takedown. Shane scrambles but Krause takes his back. James locks in the rear naked choke and it’s deep. 10 seconds left. Campbell fighting hard to make the bell and he does. Wow.

A welterweight bout between Alex Garcia (13-3 MMA) and Sean Strickland (17-1 MMA) served as the featured bout of the ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ prelims in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Strickland opens up with a front kick. Garcia dives in for a takedown and gets it but Sean is able to scramble and get back to his feet. Strickland has Garcia pressed up against the fence and lands some good strikes before throwing him to the canvas. Good up-kick from the bottom lands for Garcia. Sean dives in to his guard and lands a good right hand. Big shots from the top by Strickland and he moves to half guard. Nice elbows from the top by Sean. He follows up with some shots to the body of Garcia. More elbows from Strickland and Garcia is bleeding from his mouth. Sean postures up and lands some huge shots. Garcia scrambles and lands a takedown on Strickland. Alex with a couple of shots from top position. Good defense being shown here by Sean. Round one comes to an end.

A middleweight tilt between Daniel Sarafian (9-6 MMA) and Oluwale Bamgbose (6-1 MMA) took place during tonight’s ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ preliminary card in Pittsburgh. Oluwale Bamgbose was able to land a thunderous kick to the head of Daniel Sarafian early in round one that sent him crashing to the canvas. Bamgbose quickly swarmed in with punches and put Sarafian away.

Middleweights Anthony Smith (25-11 MMA) and Leonardo Augusto Leleco (11-2 MMA) went to battle during tonight’s ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ preliminary card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins Leleco is able to land a good right hand early. Smith shakes it off and presses forward. Straight kick from Smith followed by a knee. Anthony with a good leg kick. Leonardo presses forward but misses with his strikes. Smith with a good kick to the body. He’s walking Leleco down. Good leg kick from Smith followed by a knee and then a good shot on the break. Nice knee to the body from Anthony. Leleco is coming up short with his punches. Smith is all over him. Elbows from Anthony on the inside. Good front kick scores for Smith and then a leg kick. Leleco answers with an inside leg kick. Smith comes back with a flying knee that partially lands. Another front kick from Smith. Leleco tries to go over the top and misses. Back-to-back solid right hands land for Smith. Another right hand and then a knee from Smith. Leleco is bleeding but firing back. Round one comes to an end.

A women’s bantamweight bout between Marion Reneau (6-3 MMA) and Ashlee Evans-Smith (4-1 MMA) capped off the ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ Fight Pass Prelims in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Reneau throws a front kick that lands to start. Evans-Smith with a good jab and then a kick to the body. Another good combo scores for Ashlee. Reneau pushes forward with punches and lands a huge right! Evans-Smith is hurt and Marion is throwing punches in bunches. Evans-Smith is able to survive the onslaught and lands a good shot when the fighters break. Reneau with a good leg kick. Ashlee throws a kick of her own and Reneau catches it and takes Evans-Smith down to the mat. Reneau locks up a tight guillotine choke but Evans-Smith is saved by the bell.

A women’s bantamweight fight between Lauren Murphy (9-2 MMA) and Kelly Faszholz (3-1 MMA) served as the second bout of the ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Murphy presses forward and lands a leg kick. Kelly responds with a good combo. Murphy clinches up and begins working some knees. Fasholz answers with a solid knee of her own. Good left hands from the clinch scores for Kelly. The fighters break and Kelly lands an excellent Superman punch. Murphy responds with a good right hand, but Kelly drops her with a massive right hand of her own. Lauren bounces up to her feet and Kelly lands a kick to the body followed by a right hand to the head of Murphy. Lauren responds with some good shots. Huge overhand right scores for Murphy. She’s turning the tide. Kelly is bloodied up. Murphy is landing some good knees from the clinch. Good elbow lands for Murphy before the bell sounds to end round one.

A heavyweight bout between Anthony Hamilton (14-5 MMA) and Shamil Abdurakhimov (16-3 MMA) kicked off tonight’s ‘UFC Fight Night 83’ card in Pittsburgh. Round one begins and Abdurakhimov lands a solid uppercut. Shamil with a combo that appears to hurt Hamilton. The fighters engage in the clinch and Anthony seems to have recovered. Good counter right hand lands for Hamilton. Abdurakhimov lands a left hand and then another solid uppercut. More good shots score for Shamil. Hamilton answers with a knee to the body. Shamil with a leg kick. Hamilton replies with a right hook. The fighters clinch and Anthony starts working some knees to the body. Abdurakhimov replies with some good knees of his own before the horn sounds to end round one.

We all handle loss differently and Ronda Rousey never envisioned losing her bantamweight title. So when she lost at UFC 193 the former champs world came crashing down. Since then the former champ has appeared on a number of interviews regarding her defeat and has even hosted SNL to ‘break the ice’ after the loss.
