Last weekend, in the main event of the absolutely stacked UFC 217, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre made a return to the Octagon after some four years away. While his heyday occurred at welterweight, however, this comeback fight occurred at middleweight, where he battled divisional kingpin Michael Bisping for gold. St-Pierre was in vintage form, as he blasted Bisping on the feet and landed expertly timed takedowns en route to a third-round technical submission.

An MMA fighter is thankful to be alive after his heart stopped and his kidneys failed in the middle of a fight. Clovis “CJ” Hancock says that he died in the cage on Friday night during his fight againt Charlie Ontiveros at the Legacy Fighting Alliance fights in Houston, Texas.

Even after all of the trash talk between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw, the former friends and teammates were able to shake hands after their UFC 217 title fight. It was a close fight where Garbrandt could have possibly gotten the finish in the first round if there was a bit more time on the clock, dropping Dillashaw in the last seconds of the opening round. However, Dillashaw recovered well and dropped Garbradnt twice in the second round and got the finish.

Having lost his last two fights – back to back decisions losses to Cub Swanson and Andre Fili – Artem Lobov now feels that he deserves to be cut from the UFC. “Now that I have lost to Fili — and this is no disrespect to him — but now with two losses in a row, and the last loss was not exactly to the best guy out there, I feel like other people in my situation would be cut,” Lobov told Peter Carroll of MMAFighting.com. “If someone didn’t deserve to be in the UFC, in the past I was always the first guy to tell them, so now I feel like I don’t really deserve a UFC contract.

Over the weekend, in the first fight of the stacked UFC 217 main card, rising Brazilian middleweight contender Paulo Costa stepped into the cage with former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks. Though Costa towered over the former welterweight, this fight stood out as one of the biggest tests of his UFC career thus far – and he passed it with flying colors. After a few fun exchanges, he put the former welterweight king down with a storm of second-round punches. This big win from Costa generated attention from many members of The MMA community, including established middleweight contender Derek Brunson, who he called out post-fight. In a post to Twitter, Brunson suggested the chiselled Brazilian “100% on the juice,” and that he isn’t interested in fighting him.

Urijah Faber watched his former friend and teammate TJ Dillashaw knockout his star pupil Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217 last night in New York. After being rocked by “No Love” late in round one, Dillashaw was able to turn the tide with a big head kick in round two. Though UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley is keen on a move to middleweight to battle new middleweight king Georges St-Pierre, UFC President Dana White assures St-Pierre’s next fight will be against interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. “It’s going to be Whittaker,” White told the media in attendance at the UFC 217 post-fight conference(via MMAFighting) . “I don’t even know what’s going on with GSP. He was transported to the hospital, so he’s got to get stitches on his nose. If he doesn’t take Bisping down and keeps this fight standing, he comes out of that fight with almost no damage. Bisping did some serious work from his back and split his nose open and had him bleeding all over his face. He (St-Pierre) took some big shots from the top position and if he didn’t do that he probably would’ve come out unscratched. So yeah, he’s got to go to the hospital right now. We’ll see how he is and what the status is with him.”

Last night, in the main event of the stacked UFC 217, Canada’s Georges St-Pierre returned from a hiatus of four years to battle UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. Despite the length of his layoff, St-Pierre looked every bit an MMA great in his comeback fight, submitting Bisping with a third-round rear-naked choke to capture the middleweight crown. Unsurprisingly, this was a big moment for Canadian fight fans, who generally regard St-Pierre as something of a deity. Even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was excited by St-Pierre’s win, issuing a quick statement on Twitter to congratulate the new UFC middleweight champion.
