Round one begins and Pichel throws a double jab to keep Gregor at bay early. Gillespie presses forward and lands a punch. He shoots in and scores an early takedown. Gregor moves to half guard and then quickly passes over to side control. Gillespie begins to land some left hands. That causes Vinc to scramble and he gives up his neck. Gregor looks to lock in a front choke but it is not there. Pichel is back to his feet but Gregor swarms on him with punches. Gillespie drops down for a single leg takedown and gets it. Pichel scrambles back to his feet but once again Gregor is all over him with punches and then proceeds to score another single leg takedown. Gregor passes to half guard and fires off a right hand. Pichel is defending well here. Gillespie is able to move to full mount but Vinc immediately scrambles and is able to get back to his feet. The fighters briefly exchange punches before Gregor scores yet another takedown. Gillespie rolls for a choke. He locks up an anaconda hold but the horn sounds before he can score the finish.

Round one begins and Saunders lands a kick to the body to start things off. He throws a head kick but it is blocked by Jake. Ellenberger presses forward but eats a kick to the body for his troubles. Saunders is utilizing a lot of movement early on. Jake leaps in with a right hand and then forces Ben against the cage. The fighters trade knees and battle in the clinch. Saunders lands a big knee to the body that drops Ellenberger. Ben immediately jumps on Jake with some ground and pound and this one is all over folks. Impressive first-round victory for Ben Saunders.

No. This is not a joke. UFC strawweight fighter, Jessica ‘JAG’ Aguilar was supposed to be taking on Jodie Esquibel on the prelim portion of tonight’s UFC Utica card. Instead, that won’t be happening due to the New York State Athletic Commission removing her from the card for having chapped lips reports Ariel Helwani.

Earlier this month, Dana White and the UFC made the extremely controversial choice to cut red-hot featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez. The reason, we were told, was that Rodriguez had turned down bouts with Ricardo Lamas and Zabit Magomedsharipov — apparently a major no-no. While there was briefly talk of Yair Rodriguez moving to South American MMA powerhouse Combate Americas, it now sounds as though he and the UFC have made amends. Better still, it sounds like he’ll fight Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC 228 this September.

The latest iteration of the UFC rankings include a number of interesting changes, as Michael Bisping has exited the middleweight rankings in the wake of his retirement, and Darren Till has surged up the welterweight rankings after his controversial UFC Liverpool defeat of Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. This latter move is rather controversial, given that Till did not make weight for the bout, and therefore it did not technically occur in the welterweight division. The American welterweight has unleashed a stream of incendiary trash talk over the last few months, but apparently, it’s not bothering his opponent dos Anjos. “I grew up in Brazil in the favelas, man. Bullies, trash talking, doesn’t work with me,” dos Anjos said during the UFC 225 media conference call on Thursday (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “But I think Colby, he’s just trying [to be Conor McGregor]. Conor does it well. Conor, he’s a rich man, he makes a lot of money.”

Last night, Darren Till’s sponsor Paddy Power released a behind-the-scenes video that showed just how brutal the fighter’s UFC Liverpool weight-cut was. In this video, a visibly depleted Till could be seen clambering around on all fours, while his corner mentioned that he had lost the ability to see. This video of Till’s harrowing weight-cut has already been wiped from the Internet, likely as the result of the tidal wave of controversy it created. All over the web, members of the MMA community voiced their concern, calling for Till to change weight classes, and for the widespread reform of weight-cutting policies.
