Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was recently left without an opponent when former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was forced out of their scheduled UFC 207 scrap just days before the event after the NSAC deemed Velasquez medically unfit to fight.

While Junior dos Santos initially opened up as a frontrunner for a late replacement opponent for Werdum, UFC President Dana White then revealed that Werdum turned down the fight with Dos Santos, and requested $800,000 for the fight, plus a cut of PPV sales.

“Werdum has turned down two fights,” White said. “JDS. Yes. Werdum turned that fight down.

“Then we offered him a fight with I think Alistair Overeem in Brooklyn [UFC 208], and he turned that down too.”

“There’s different ways to turn fights down,” White continued. “I’d call him and say ‘hey, do you want this fight?’, ‘no, I don’t want this fight’, or you can say ‘yeah, for 800 thousand dollars and a piece of pay-per-view.’ That’s turning down the fight.”

Werdum then took to social media to fire back, revealing that he only asked for $500,000, and that the incident was a misunderstanding.

Since Velasquez was forced out of the bout, Werdum has requested that he receive the next heavyweight title shot against Stipe Miocic given that his fight with Velasquez was set to be a #1 contender fight.
