Din Thomas defends Dana White: "I'm all for Dana making all the fights happen"

Although he was directly affected by the UFC having to postpone recent fight cards, MMA coach Din Thomas is praising UFC President Dana White for his efforts to push forward. Thomas was supposed to be in the corner for Tyron Woodley’s scheduled fight against Leon Edwards in London, but the UFC pulled the plug on that event even after they scrambled to move locations and possibly opponents for the main event. During an interview with On The Mic podcast, Thomas defended Dana White for his urgency and push to keep the UFC events continuing on.

After having his fight against Leon Edwards postponed, former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley had other potential opponents willing to step in on short-notice for a fight. Unfortunately, none materialized, as the UFC officially postponed the UFC London event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns both throwing their names into the hat to face Woodley, it seemed as though the former champion has moved on from Leon Edwards and shifted focus to facing Covington as the two have a long-standing rivalry between them.
Coach Din Thomas leaves American Top Team

Din Thomas, a long-serving coach at American Top Team in South Florida, has parted ways with the world famous MMA gym. Thomas announced his departure, which he says was amicable, to MMA Fighting. The long-time coach says he now plans to train fighters as a head coach.

Din Thomas has released another video in which he impersonates Stephen A Smith, this in light of the ESPN analysts ongoing feud with Joe Rogan. The UFC commentator, Rogan, had taken issue with some of the comments made by Smith following Conor McGregor’s TKO victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.

Two-weight UFC champion Amanda Nunes made some headlines last week when she said that she was ‘done’ fighting at featherweight after she defeated former champion Cris Cyborg in 51 seconds at UFC 232 to become the UFC’s first ever two-weight women’s champion. While Nunes stated that many knew the featherweight division was only made for the arrival of Cyborg, another featherweight, Megan Anderson took exception to Nunes’ comments and called for her to be stripped of the title. As the division’s future is up in the air, one person close to Nunes believes she won’t fight again at featherweight.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show, American Top Team coach Din Thomas detailed what he calls the ‘four categories’ of mixed martial artist. He says that, as a coach, it’s important for him to identify which category each fighter falls into in order to train them effectively. “When I’m coaching guys, I have to identify that early, and what I’m working with,” Thomas said. “Are you a fighter, are you an athlete, are you a competitor, or are you an artist. I put them in them four categories, and they all have to be trained different.”

Din Thomas, one of the coaches at American Top Team, and a former fighter himself, says he has no problem telling his fighters when it’s time to hang up the gloves. Thomas opened up on the topic in a conversation with Joe Rogan on the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show. “I’m pretty honest with them,” Din Thomas told Joe Rogan on the show (transcript via MMAjunkie). “I’m pretty honest. I’m like, ‘Man, this ain’t for you no more.’ I always have to tell them if I feel like it’s going to effect them physically and hurt them by continuing to fight, I tell them, ‘You need to stop.’
