The most feared women’s fighter on the planet, Cris Cyborg, has issued yet another challenge to former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, but this time the stipulations are much different. Cyborg has apparently garnered an interest in professional wrestling, this after recently training moves with TNA & WWE Tough Enough Star Gabriela “Gabi” Castrovinci, and has decided that a bout with Rousey under the WWE banner makes sense.

Invicta champ Megan Anderson defends "Cyborg," criticizes USADA

Tom Taylor - March 16, 2017

Late last year, featherweight superstar Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino failed a drug test administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Given that Cyborg has had issues with performing enhancers in the past, the MMA community was quick to pick up their torches and pitchforks and accuse her of cheating. In the end, however, Cyborg was granted a retroactive Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for Spironolactone, the substance in question. As such, she was cleared of any guilt, and will be able to continue to compete as normal. While Cyborg was proven innocent, however, many members of the MMA community still question the legitimacy of her legacy of dominance. In the opinion of Megan Anderson, who holds the Invicta interim featherweight title and stands out as one of Cyborg’s biggest rivals, this isn’t exactly just.

Invicta champ Megan Anderson breaks down potential clash with "Cyborg"

Tom Taylor - March 16, 2017

Megan Anderson, who currently holds the Invicta interim featherweight title, is one of the best female featherweights on the planet today. While there is no indication that she’ll sign with the UFC in the immediate future, she is already being discussed as an opponent for UFC star Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, who is far and away the sport’s premiere female featherweight. On Wednesday’s edition of BJ Penn Radio, Anderson discussed this potential clash with host Kinch, explaining that she believes she’d make an excellent opponent for Cyborg based on her skillset, control of range, and size. Her words:

Cris Cyborg ready to fight regardless of Germaine De Randamie's status

Scott Hernandez - March 10, 2017

Earlier this year, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm stepped into the Octagon with kickboxing veteran Germaine De Randamie for a highly anticipated showdown for the inaugural women’s featherweight title. The fight was a rather controversial one, with De Randamie landing shots after the bell on two occasions. Despite that, she won the fight, and became the inaugural women’s featherweight champion.

Amanda Nunes wants 145 belt, doesn't want Cyborg fight

Scott Hernandez - March 8, 2017

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes has been extremely open about the fact that she would like to become the first ever two-division UFC women’s champion. With the recent addition of the women’s featherweight division, Nunes had her eyes on the recent UFC 208 inaugural women’s featherweight title fight, where Germaine De Randamie defeated Holly Holm to win the inaugural title. While Nunes could likely get an immediate title shot at featherweight, it’s no secret that Cris Cyborg, who was recently cleared of her USADA violation, is the #1 contender at 145 pounds. With that being said, Nunes still has plans to go for the women’s 145 pound belt, but without fighting Cyborg.

Holly Holm's appeal of UFC 208 loss denied by NYSAC

Russell Ess - February 28, 2017

The inaugural UFC women’s featherweight championship ended with quite a bit of controversy. Germaine de Randamie landed some of the biggest shots of the fight on Holly Holm after the bell rang to signal the end of the round. It happened not once, but twice, coming at the end of rounds 2 and 3. It was enough so that the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion and her team filed for an appeal of the unanimous decision loss to de Randamie a few days after the fight.

Cris Cyborg explains ramifications of USADA failed drug test

Scott Hernandez - February 21, 2017

Exciting news surfaced this month that Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg had been cleared of her USADA anti-doping violation stemming from a random out-of-competition drug test in December. While Cyborg was initially flagged for the potential doping violation, UFC President Dana White expressed his faith in the situation, stating that he believes Cyborg will be the next challenger to the women’s featherweight title.

Cris Cyborg cleared of potential USADA anti-doping violation

Scott Hernandez - February 17, 2017

On the heels of UFC President Dana White expressing his confidence in hopefully getting Cris Cyborg cleared of her potential USADA anti-doping violation stemming from an out of competition drug test in December of 2016, the news has been made official. A statement was released on Cyborg being cleared, which partly read:

Cyborg: "Everyone knows who the champ is at 145"

Tom Taylor - February 13, 2017

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC 208, Germaine de Randamie scored a controversial decision win over former bantamweight champ Holly Holm to become the UFC’s first ever women’s featherweight champion. De Randamie’s history-making win, however, had a massive shadow cast over it by one woman: Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino. Cyborg, who has not lost since her pro debut more than a decade ago, is far and away the best female featherweight on earth. Regrettably, several brutal cuts to 140 pounds and a December brush with the United States Anti-Doping Agency meant that she wasn’t able to participate in the UFC’s inaugural women’s featherweight title fight. Despite her absence from this historic bout, however, she is still widely regarded as the uncrowned featherweight queen.

Cris Cyborg breaks down UFC 208's Germaine de Randamie vs. Holly Holm fight

Chris Taylor - February 12, 2017

Cris Cybrog was at the Barclay’s Center for last night’s UFC 208 pay-per-view event in Brooklyn but she was not involved in the first-ever UFC women’s featherweight title fight. Instead, Cyborg watched from the sidelines as Germaine de Randamie outpointed Holly Holm on route to a unanimous decision victory (48-47 x3).

Last night, the UFC touched down in Brooklyn, New York with UFC 208. In the main event of the evening, the organization crowned it’s first-ever women’s featherweight champion. It did so by pitting Dutch kickboxing specialist Germaine de Randamie against former women’s bantamweight queen Holly Holm. Though De Randamie landed two questionably shots after the bell, and Holm seemed to run away with the fight in the second half, she was ultimately awarded a contentious unanimous decision win by the judges, and became the UFC’s first ever female featherweight champion as a result.

Dana White optimistic regarding Cris Cyborg failed drug test

Scott Hernandez - February 10, 2017

A 2016 Cris Cyborg failed drug test could have landed Cyborg on the sidelines for quite some time, however UFC President Dana White is optimistic regarding the situation. Last year, Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg made her highly anticipated UFC debut at UFC 198, where she picked up a 1st round TKO win over Leslie Smith in a catchweight bout. Cyborg built on the momentum later in the year as she picked up another dominant win over Lina Lansberg in Brazil. Unfortunately, when the UFC attempted to offer Cyborg a women’s featherweight UFC fight, she was forced to turn the bout down due to the strain cutting down to 140 pounds put on her body.

Cris Cyborg leaves heartfelt comment on Ronda Rousey's social media post

Russell Ess - January 9, 2017

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made her first social media post since losing to the current chamion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Monday. Rousey came back as the end of 2016, taking a year off from fighting after losing for the first time in her professional mixed martial arts career in 2015 against Holly Holm. The time off seemingly did not help Rousey in her comeback as she was devastated by Nunes in the first round of their title fight on December 30.

Cris Cyborg's coach invites Ronda Rousey to train

Scott Hernandez - January 6, 2017

When UFC President Dana White announced that Ronda Rousey would be returning to the Octagon to fight Amanda Nunes on December 30th in the main event of UFC 207, he also pointed out that if Rousey were to emerge from her UFC 207 scrap with Nunes victorious, she would then likely move on to fight Cris Cyborg in a highly anticipated superfight. While the superfight was always just out of reach from fight fans, during Ronda Rousey‘s hiatus from the time of her loss to Holly Holm, to her fight with Amanda Nunes, Cyborg fought twice in the UFC, going 2-0 at catchweight fights of 140 pounds. While it appeared as though the stars were aligning for the potential superfight to become a reality, Rousey’s one-sided loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 this past weekend ended talks of a potential fight with Cris Cyborg.
