By Drake Riggs - April 19, 2019

“Hi guys, I’m awake,” Angela Magana started. “I still feel very tired, I can barely open my eyes. But um… Thank you, everybody, for thinking about me. I feel like I’m a very rich woman cause I have a lot of time. Well, look what happened. I almost lost all my time. But to take time to wish somebody well… What do we do with time? We make money, so time’s more valuable than money…

“So thank you to everybody who took the time to wish me well. I’m going to make a full recovery. The problem was just the anesthesia. The disc procedure and the cauda equina stuff went better than they thought. So the surgery was great. It was just the anesthesia. I’m going to get better, and I’ll be fighting again soon. Nothing’ll stop me, man. And Combate Americas has been so good to me, thank you. Some huge stresses in my life has been from injured in fighting.”

The past few days have not been kind to strawweight veteran, Angela Magana as a normal surgery took an unfortunate turn for the worst.

Magana was scheduled to take on Kyra Batara at this weekend’s Combate America’s event, Combate 35: Reinas in Los Angeles, California.

However, The Ultimate Fighter season 20 alum in Magana would be forced out of the bout as she needed emergency surgery to take care of a herniated disc. She would end up going under the knife and having a successful surgery… She just wouldn’t wake up due to a reaction to the anesthesia.

After a few days in a coma, Magana would wake up and is now, as she mentioned, set to make a full recovery.

“We are thrilled and relieved to hear that Angela has come out of the coma and is alert and responsive,” Combate Americas Sr. VP of Operations and Communications told MMA Junkie. “We have to imagine that her fierceness and determination has played a part in her recovery.”

Magana’s last fight came in August 2018 at RIZIN 12 when she suffered a second-round defeat to Kanako Murata via submission (Von Flue choke).
