Israel Adesanya had a harsh, yet brutally honest take regarding Khamzat Chimaev’s dominant win against Kevin Holland in the first round at UFC 279. Chimaev took care of business via a D’arce choke submission. Adesanya, the current UFC middleweight champion, was not pleased with the welterweight contender’s actions during fight week, especially considering that Chimaev’s significant weight miss of 7.5 pounds caused the top half of the main card to get reshuffled entirely.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission plans to investigate the UFC 279 backstage press conference scuffle. On Thursday of fight week, the UFC was hosting a press conference for Chimaev-Diaz, Ferguson-Jingliang, and Holland-Rodriguez. However, there was an incident backstage that forced White and the UFC to cancel it as White said it was a sh*tshow.

Chimaev secured a dominant submission in the first round of their five-round co-main event. However, the Chechen was never supposed to fight ‘Trailblazer’ last weekend.

The UFC returned to Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday for UFC 279 which was a much different card than originally planned. In the main event, Nate Diaz ended up fighting Tony Ferguson after Khamzat Chimaev missed weight by 7.5lbs for his scrap against Diaz. The Swede was then dropped to the co-main event and was booked to face Kevin Holland.

MMA and UFC community pays tribute to Elias Theodorou after Canadian fighter passes away at age 34

The MMA world was shocked to learn on Sunday night that Canadian MMA fighter Elias Theodorou had died. He was just 34 years of age, and had been privately battling colon cancer. Theodorou, like many fight fans, became captivated by mixed martial arts after watching The Ultimate Fighter season 1 on Spike TV back in 2006. In 2011 he kicked off his professional MMA career on the Canadian circuit, fighting for Alberta’s Hard Knocks Fighting and Ontario’s Score Fighting Series. When Bellator rolled through Windsor, Ontario, Theodorou competed on the prelims.
