The victory marked the Brazilians fifth in a row, and fourth consecutive finish.

Bella Mir, the daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, notched the first stoppage win of her young career on Friday night. The 17-year-old, Mir (2-0 MMA), made her first iKon Fight Federation appearance back in October where she earned a unanimous decision victory over Danielle Wynn (0-1 MMA).

Cameras were on UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson when Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from MMA following UFC 254. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have a long history between each other that dates back nearly a decade. The two have been connected to five fights in the past, but they all fell through for various issues. Freak injuries, bad timing, and even the coronavirus pandemic led this dream matchup to fizzle five times. Despite the apparent jinx on making his bout, both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have said that the fight could still happen one day. However, Nurmagomedov’s apparent retirement changes things.

UFC president Dana White believes that a double weight cut “impacted” Tony Ferguson when he lost by knockout to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Ferguson was originally set to fight UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov back in April. However, the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, yet Ferguson decided to stay on schedule and make weight. The UFC was then able to hold an event in May in Jacksonville and Ferguson was matched up against Gaethje. Ferguson cut weight for a second time in a short period of time and then suffered the worst loss of his UFC career as he was beaten to the punch and TKOed in the fifth.

Artem Lobov believes Conor McGregor will beat Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 the same way he did at UFC 178. Back in 2014, McGregor was making his rise up the featherweight division and scored a first-round KO over Poirier. The Irishman said he would do exactly that, but at UFC 257 they are rematching at lightweight with many believing it will be a more competitive fight.

UFC President Dana White claims the UFC is now worth nine or ten billion dollars—a massive increase from the amount the promotion sold for in 2016. The UFC was sold by Zuffa LLC to WME-IMG in 2016 for a heaping $4 billion. Since then, the promotion has staged a long list of blockbuster events, many of which have sold more than a million pay-per-views. The promotion also signed a lucrative broadcast deal with ESPN, which commenced in 2018, and has many other sources of income.
Islam Makhachev targeted for UFC 259 return against rising contender Drew Dober

A highly-intriguing lightweight bout between top-15 ranked fighters Islam Makhachev and Drew Dober has been added to UFC 259. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto confirmed the fight between Makhachev and Dober, which is likely to take place at UFC 259 on March 6. There is no main event for that card currently set, but UFC president Dana White previously said the UFC is targeting a heavyweight title rematch between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou for the March PPV event.
