We all knew it would be hard to get Nate Diaz back in the Octagon after back-to-back gigantic fights with Conor McGregor, but we had no idea it would be this difficult. Initially, we all thought he’d just be waiting until McGregor came back from his multi-million boxing bout, but that lag time just kept growing larger and larger until nothing. The MMA community’s ears peaked up when there was word of a bonkers fight between Tyron Woodley and Diaz to beef up UFC 219, but that has since been squashed. In a recent interview with Dana White, he not only says that the fight was never offered to begin with, but that Diaz has turned down every single fight he’s been offered for a year and a half. “Nate Diaz has turned down a fight with everyone on the roster. The potential fight between Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz came and went nearly as fast as the UFC welterweight champ punches. The deal was halfway done until the talk stalled, which prompted Woodley to put Diaz on blast every chance he got. With the Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm fight announced, that looked to be the final nail in the coffin. We’ve since learned that the UFC is still not happy with how UFC 219 is turning out, so it looks like negotiations are still on-going. Tyron Woodley has come up with an idea of how to get Diaz into the Octagon with a compromise that rests in-between his large $15 million demands to fight. Over the last few weeks, there has been significant buzz surrounding a possible UFC 219 welterweight title fight between champ Tyron Woodley and long-time lightweight contender Nate Diaz. As the time between us and UFC 219 continues to dissipate, however, this fight continues to look more and more unlikely. According to Richard Perez, who serves as Nate Diaz’s boxing coach, if this fight doesn’t get made it will be because the UFC doesn’t want to pay Diaz his asking price.

There was mixed reactions to the rumblings of the UFC trying to put together a match-up between Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz. The bout was agreed to and the contract signed by Woodley but was supposedly left blank by Diaz. This resulted in Woodley talking to every outlet he was featured on to convince the younger Diaz brother to ‘not be scared, homie.’ Other than the UFC welterweight champs energy put in the potential scrap, it looks like it is dead in the water but who knows. Carlos Condit, who will make his return at UFC 219, was asked about the fight and he was confused to say the least. “I just heard about [the possibility of Nate Diaz fighting Tyron Woodley] tonight and I don’t know. It’s strange. I didn’t expect that. I don’t know. Do they have some sort of ongoing Twitter beef or something? Like, where did it come from? Oh, okay. They’re trying to fill out [UFC 219]. They’re trying to get a main event. Alright, y’know. It’s a weird thing. Strange things happen. Whatever. I think there are more deserving contenders at welterweight but I guess they’ve lost to Tyron [Woodley] at this point. So, yeah. It’s kind of a weird place. But hey, I bet those guys [would] put on a helluva fight. honestly. I think that Diaz would push the pace and be in Tyron’s face and Tyron would rise to the occasion and perform like he can perform and i think it’d be a helluva fight. So, if they do it, that’s awesome.”

Though UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley’s possible scrap with Nate Diaz seems to have lost some steam, Woodley himself is still fired about about this prospective showdown, and believes it could still happen. “I’m fired up about people that tell you ‘Don’t be scared, homie,’ and then they’re scared, homie! That’s what I’m fired up about,” Woodley said on The Hollywood Beatdown (h/t MMAFighting).

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is hoping to secure a fight with former lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz at December’s UFC 219 event in Las Vegas. Earlier this week “The Chosen One” announced that a fight with the younger Diaz brother was fifty-percent complete and only required Nate to stop with his “excuses” and sign on the dotted line.

After an explosion of speculation and swirling rumors, it was confirmed that a fight between Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley was in the negotiation stage. Just when things started heating up, suddenly it seemed like the fight wasn’t going to happen. This drop-off prompted the UFC welterweight champ Woodley to air all the dirty laundry. He claims that he’s already signed on the dotted line and publicly addressed the younger Diaz brother about not going through with his end of the deal yet. As we learned more and more about what’s going on, Tyron Woodley’s coach Din Thomas opens up about the whole fight.

Elias Theodorou is living the gimmick. The ‘Mane Event’ has got deals with Pert Plus and now even Mattel, just a couple of ways he’s making money outside the cage to eventually gain leverage inside of it. He’s part of a new era of fighters that have changed with the sport, forecast its path, and prepared for it. None of us however, were prepared for the news that a fight between Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz would be in the works. It was met drastically different reactions that include both extremes, but Theodorou is completely fine with it. Not only that, but explains why it makes business-sense. “What do rankings mean? We potentially have [Tyron] Woodley fighting Nate Diaz. I have a TV show and a movie in the works. Once my face in on a movie, they’ll put me wherever I demand. I have more bigger plans than this. People are thinking too [narrow-minded] — Gone are the days of, ‘I’ll fight anyone, anywhere, blah blah blah.’ […] Sport Entertainment. Plain and simple. That’s what it is and all the power to them. I hope Woodley and Nate make as much money possible. Again, it’s for what it is. I’m not even criticizing the UFC for doing it.  They have a $100 million a year in interest that they have to pay for $4 billion – $4.2 billion entity that they bought and they got to do what they got to do.”

With UFC 219 being one of the more problematic cards of the year, the UFC had to do something major. The wild news of Tyron Woodley possibly fighting Nate Diaz at UFC 219 comes right on the heels of the younger Diaz brother entering into training camp. Who knows if the fight actually gets done, but it seems like it is working towards that way and as we all know, anything can happen in this fight game. As soon as strength and conditioning coach Jose Garcia released a blurb on Instagram about Nate Diaz entering into his fight camp, the MMA world got set ablaze with wild speculation. However, sometimes reality can be stranger than fiction. Out of all the swirling rumors, it seems that none other than Tyron Woodley has emerged as a possible opponent for the returning Diaz brother. So far, despite confirming reports by our own Chris Taylor and Ariel Helwani, neither fighter has come right out and said something. Rising UFC welterweight Colby Covington has some real history with former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. According to Covington, the two MMA stars were college roommates from 2007-2009 at Iowa Central Community College where they both won junior college national wrestling titles together. Covington has a way with his words that has gotten him a lot of attention. Recently, Covington sent a harsh tweet to Jones, who wished Georges St-Pierre well in his return to the Octagon at UFC 217.

There’s no secret that Tyron Woodley wanted the winner between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre’s fight at UFC 217. Now that St-Pierre made his successful return and captured the UFC middleweight title, Woodley has stepped into overdrive to try and make this superfight happen. On his new show with TMZ Executive Producer Evan Roseblum, Woodley talked to the man face-to-face to get the biggest fight of his career. “Now you’ve had your warm-up fight, you’ve beat up [Michael] Bisping. I think it’s time to solidify. You’re the greatest welterweight of all time. That’s my goal to be the greatest welterweight of all time. Let’s get it in. Forget the contract, you were the welterweight king at one point. Anything that’s gonna’ sell, the UFC’s gonna’ do. I’ll come up to middleweight, we can do that fight there. Both of us don’t have to get in the sauna’s much. Let’s get it in. Robert Whittaker or Tyron Woodley? Just think about it. Legacy wise for me? There’s not a fight I want more.”

Colby Covington is not letting up on Tyron Woodley. Whether it is in the Octagon, on social media, in the grocery store, or at Impact Wrestling, Covington has been challenging Woodley left and right. It’s exactly what a guy coming off the biggest win of his career against Demian Maia should be doing. All of these words aren’t just for promotion purposes though, Colby Covington vows that his beef with Woodley is as real as it gets. “There’s not going to be any friendly terms [between me an Tyron Woodley]. This is not talk, this is not something that we’re promoting, this is real legitimate beef. We have an actual feud. If I see that dude in the streets, we’re going to be throwing blows and he’s going to be face down unconscious on the concrete. So, I have no respect for Tyron Woodley. The guy’s a piece of sh-t. He tries to claim all this sh-t. The guy, I mean, this is the type of dude he is, that he brings out these coaches for training camp, like four or five different coaches, and then he doesn’t pay them when he makes agreements that he’s going to pay them a percentage of his fight purse. So that tells you what kind of person Tyron Woodley is. So, I don’t respect that person.”

If there is one guy you can’t knock about being persistent, it’s Colby Covington. He’s gone to the ends of the Earth and back to get a title shot against Tyron Woodley, this time he’s ventured where no MMA fighter has ever gone before to call out a UFC fighter. Covington has been one of many fighters storming Impact Wrestling with American Top Team co-founder Dan Lambert. They granted him some time on the mic backstage and he did what any good pro wrestling heel does: Call out the champion and trash him on the mic.    “Man, the guy is making all these excuses. [Tyron Woodley] doesn’t want to tell the world the real reason he doesn’t want to fight me. The real reason Tyron Woodley doesn’t want to fight me is because the last time we were in the gym together, I broke him. And I’ll do the same thing in front of the world when we fight for that welterweight champions, Tyron Woodley. January makes sense, you know. They’re doing a UFC in St Louis, his hometown, so let’s see if he can defend the home turf.”

By now, it’s common knowledge that Conor McGregor let some choice words fly after his right hand hand Artem Lobov lost to Andre Fili at UFC Gdansk. It’s by far no the first time McGregor has said something controversial, but it seemed like it was the last straw with some people and turned into the biggest story of the card. It’s worth it to note that the UFC champ champ has since released a public apology, but that isn’t enough for Tyron Woodley who thinks he’s gotten way too many passes as it is. “I’m fired up about Conor McGregor. He was using homophobic slurs. How many passes do we give this dude? That’s like the person that drops the ‘N’ bomb and says ‘I’m not racist, I’ve got three black friends and I had them over for dinner last night’. I gave him a pass during the Floyd Mayweather fight. He was using the term ‘boy’ [and] ‘monkey, words that have had very, very negative racial undertones in the past but I’ve got a problem with this. When you’re a celebrity of that stature and you’re making that kind of money, you need to have a PR person on staff and you need to have a bit more of a social conscience when you’re saying things.”

No matter what crazy stuff he said, you can’t deny that Colby Covington backed it up by taking out Demian Maia at UFC Sao Paulo. He may be in some hot water, but he made the most out of his time on the mic and called out Tyron Woodley to challenge for his UFC welterweight title. Woodley is out with a shoulder injury and is slated to fight the winner between Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos, but didn’t hesitate to throw some shade at Covington. “My shoulder’s not what it should be, but this past weekend there was a couple of people bumping their gums about fighting and I was like, you know what? I could actually beat this person with my shoulder the way that it is. So, could I fight and compete? Yes. Would it be very smart especially with your belt on the line, you know, with several figures on the line? Probably not. So, I was trying to go the route of maybe doing a stem cell, doing a PRP [platelet-rich plasma injection] instead of the surgery and just kind of rehabbing it, seeing how strong I can get it first so I can make that decision.”
