Stephen Thompson vs. Rory MacDonald headlines UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa

During today’s UFC Unstoppable press conference, UFC president Dana White announced that a key welterweight bout between Stephen Thompson and Rory MacDonald will headline June’s UFC Fight Night 89 event in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Stephen Thompson is coming off a spectacular showing against former title holder Johny Hendricks, whom he TKO’d in the very first-round at UFC Fight Night 82. The victory marked “Wonder Boy’s” sixth-straight win inside of the octagon.

Meanwhile, Rory MacDonald will return to action for the first-time since his thrilling loss to Robbie Lawler this past July in Las Vegas. The Canadian welterweight standout will be looking to put an end to Thompson’s impressive win streak in his home country.

UFC Fight Night 89 will mark the octagon’s first trip to Ottawa. The event takes place on June 18. A venue for the event has yet to be named.
