Sean O’Malley explains why he feels bad for “poor” Jack Della Maddalena

UFC star Sean O’Malley has explained why he feels bad for Jack Della Maddalena in the wake of his UFC 322 defeat.
On Saturday night, Jack Della Maddalena was unable to keep hold of his UFC welterweight championship. He was beaten pretty comprehensively by Islam Makhachev in the main event of UFC 322, with Islam becoming a two-weight world champion as a result of his victory.

Everyone knew this was always going to be a tough assignment for Della Maddalena, but not many thought it would be quite so one-sided. As we look ahead to the immediate future, it will certainly be interesting to see how JDM is able to bounce back from such a notable loss.
In a recent podcast, Sean O’Malley gave his thoughts on Della Maddalena’s defeat and certainly showed some sympathy.
O’Malley’s view on Della Maddalena’s brief title run
“That was very high level,” O’Malley said on The BrO’Malley Show. “Islam moving up from 155 to 170, fighting JDM the champ. Poor JDM, he goes out there, he gets the belt, he wins the belt, and the first title defense is Islam.
“Fortunate for me, I win the belt, they gave me Chito. Woo! We got the game wrapped up on our finger there.”
“It’s crazy how much damage he didn’t take and how good of a job he did not getting submitted,” O’Malley said. “It sucks that’s the takeaway, but that was very impressive for him not to get submitted. … It was very good, but at the end of the day you’re still on your back, it’s still nothing. Nothing you can do about that. Unfortunate for JDM.”
