The wait is finally over. Bellator is going to kick off their big heavyweight grand prix before this month ends and Chael Sonnen will face off with Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. They’ll be throwing down for the chance to advance in the tournament, which will finally crown a Bellator heavyweight champion by the end of this year. MMA is prizefighting, so it makes sense to have a reward. The two are adding the stakes to their upcoming fight with a side-bet using their own cash. “Let’s do it right here, right now. Let’s do it right here. I will give you $10K for every takedown you get on me. It’s 10 grand per takedown, $500 per jab. […] You won’t take me down not one time. Hey, I’m giving up $10K per takedown, don’t be a wuss. $500 per jab.” — Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson on the ESPN LA radio show.

Two former UFC stars, Chael Sonnen and Rampage Jackson are now with Bellator and booked to compete against one another at Bellator 192 on January 20. This fight will be the very first fight to kick things off for the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix where the winner will be crowned Bellator’s new Heavyweight champion. This will be Sonnen’s first fight at Heavyweight and Rampage’s third. Each fighter has one loss in the promotion but Rampage has four times as many wins as Sonnen. It’s well known what type of fighter that Sonnen is. He’s one of the best and strongest pressure wrestlers that the Middleweight division has ever seen. Rampage, however, is known for his tremendous punch knockouts and ability to entertain on the feet. So it’s clear what each will want to do in this matchup and they have even admitted it after now appearing to place a rather interesting bet on their fight.
'Rampage' explains why he'd prefer not to fight Chael Sonnen and Fedor Emelianenko in Bellator GP
Tom Taylor - November 14, 2017
Bellator MMA finally has a plan in place to fill its vacant heavyweight throne. Throughout 2018, the organization will promote a heavyweight grand prix featuring eight of its premier heavyweights and light heavyweights in Frank Mir, Fedor Emelianenko, Matt Mitrione, Roy Nelson, Ryan Bader, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Chael Sonnen. Speaking on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Rampage discussed his role in this tournament, and immediately divulged that he’s rather unexcited about the prospect of a fight with wrestling specialist Chael Sonnen. King Mo explains distraction in midst of Rampage Jackson fight
Scott Hernandez - April 5, 2017
This past weekend, MMA veteran Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal stepped into the Bellator MMA cage with MMA legend Rampage Jackson in Rosemont, IL. The fight was a rather dominant one for King Mo, who stated before the fight that he planned to use his wrestling to dominate Jackson, who weighed in nearly 50 pounds heavier than King Mo. With that being said, a time came in the second round when Jackson was landing strikes, and it appeared as though he may be on his way to a stoppage win over Lawal. ‘King Mo’ rallied between rounds however, and ultimately secured the win, avenging his loss to Jackson two years ago.

Back in May of 2014, in the main event of Bellator’s first-ever pay-per-view, former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson scored a controversial – and admittedly lackluster – defeat of Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. Tomorrow night in the main event of Bellator 175, the two Bellator stars will go at it again. The key difference between this Bellator 175 rematch and the pair’s original fight is that it will occur at heavyweight, rather than light heavyweight. That means neither man was forced to endure a weight cut.
