While details on the situation remained scarce, UFC President Dana White revealed that Hughes was in the hospital being treated for head trauma, and that his family was traveling to the hospital to be with him.

White revealed to ESPN that the 43-year-old Hughes was helping a friend out, when the car he was riding in collided with a moving train.

While the general consensus in the MMA community is that fight fans are thrilled for the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match on August 26th, boxers, as well as boxing fans, are less thrilled about the fight, with Oscar De La Hoya going as far as to state that the fight could set boxing so far back that it may never recover. With that being said, that sentiment isn’t held by the entire boxing community, as Andre Ward has come out and stated that he believes the fight is good for boxing. The competitors set for UFC Fight Night 111 took to the scales on Friday in Singapore for the early weigh-ins. All competitors but one made their weight with main event fighters Holly Holm and Bethe Correia making the women’s bantamweight limit with Holm coming in at 135 pounds and Correia coming in at 136 pounds. Holm will look to end her three-fight losing streak while Correia will be looking to get her hand raised after going to a majority draw in her last fight against Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 106.

Not all that long ago, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping agreed to a catchweight superfight. Despite their clear interest in fighting one another, however, the fight never came to fruition. Instead, Woodley now appears to be closing in on a title defense opposite Demian Maia, while Bisping is currently nursing an injury, and is expected to return against the winner of Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker’s interim middleweight title fight. While this catchweight superfight has been relegated to the back burner for now, it is one that still interests Woodley, and one that surely still interests Bisping. And though they have swapped some trash talk in the past, their mutual interest in this fight is not borne of bad blood. In fact, Woodley actually has a good deal of respect for the middleweight champ.
