Germaine de Randamie reacts to being stripped of featherweight title

Earlier this year, Germaine de Randamie outwardly refused to defend her UFC women’s featherweight title against number-one contender Cris “Cyborg” Justino. Today, the UFC announced that it had stripped De Randamie of her title as a result of this refusal, and that Cyborg will be battling Megan Anderson for the vacant title at UFC 214 this July 29. “UFC has informed Germaine de Randamie and her management team that she is being removed as the women’s featherweight champion due to her unwillingness to fight the No. 1 ranked contender, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino,” The UFC said in a statement posted to UFC.com. Subsequently, top contender Justino will face newly signed Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson for the UFC women’s featherweight title in the co-main event of UFC® 214: CORMIER vs. JONES 2, July 29 in Anaheim, Calif.

Earlier today, we learned that Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Megan Anderson will collide for undisputed UFC women’s featherweight gold in the co-main event of UFC 214 in Anaheim, California this July 29. This news immediately raised question about the status of Germaine de Randamie, who won the undisputed women’s featherweight title with a controversial decision defeat of Holly Holm back in February. De Randamie, as many speculated, has been stripped of the undisputed featherweight title so that this Cyborg-Anderson fight could be made possible. The promotion stripped the Dutch fighter of her title after she refused to fight Cyborg.

In a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com, the top lightweight announced that he will debuting as an analyst on FS1 during the UFC Fight Night 112 broadcast in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this Sunday. In this interview, Ferguson explained that he believes he’s well-fitted for work as an analyst.

It’s official. After months of campaigning for a fight at UFC 214, featherweight star Cris “Cyborg” Justino has finally had her wish granted. The Brazilian juggernaut will take on current Invicta featherweight champion Megan Anderson on the July 29 card, which goes down in Anaheim, California. The bout will serve as the card’s the co-main event, and it will crown the UFC’s new undisputed featherweight champion. Former undisputed champion Germaine de Randamie has been stripped of her title, having refused to fight the dominating Cyborg. This news was announced by the UFC on Twitter on Monday morning.

Over the weekend, UFC President Dana White and WME boss Ari Emanuel touched down in Cannes, France, where they participated in the Lions International Festival of Creativity. During the festival, White and Emanuel announced some interesting, UFC-related news. Apparently, the promotion will be adding sensors to fight gloves, shorts, and to the surface of the Octagon itself in order to provide new, real-time statistics during fight broadcasts. The plan is to integrate these stats with the UFC’s powerful social media presence during broadcasts for an engaging, interactive experience. As you might expect, these sensors will shed light on how hard and fast strikes are thrown. The stats will also provide some context as to how much fighters improve their technique from fight to fight. This technology will be based on technology used in Major League Baseball.

In the main event of this anticipated card, which aired entirely on Fight Pass, former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia stepped onto the canvas with former champion Holly Holm. Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva… One fight that is often forgotten, however, is Steve Bosse’s incredible battle with Sean O’Connell. This frenzied fight occurred one year ago today, when the UFC debuted in the Canadian capital city of Ottawa, Ontario. The action between these two light heavyweight sluggers began quickly, and it was O’Connell who landed hard first. In the first half of the fight, the American dropped his French Canadian foe repeatedly, easily with enough severity that a stoppage would have been justifiable. Luckily for Bosse, however, the referee allowed the fight to continue, which gave him the opportunity to surge back and batter O’Connell to the edge of consciousness.

Saturday morning, American fight fans tuned into UFC Fight Pass for a highly anticipated morning of fights in Singapore, headlined by a women’s bantamweight showdown between Holly Holm and Bethe Correia. On the main card however, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos picked up a unanimous decision win over Tarec Saffiedine in his UFC welterweight debut. The win over Saffiedine was a much needed one for dos Anjos, who was riding a 2-fight skid going into his welterweight debut that saw him drop a 1st round TKO to Eddie Alvarez to lose the lightweight title nearly a year ago before then dropping a unanimous decision to Tony Ferguson. Following Dos Anjos’ win over Saffiedine, UFC lightweight #1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov called for a fight between Dos Anjos and top ranked welterweight Jorge Masvidal:
