Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 214, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will step into the Octagon with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for a highly anticipated rematch several years in the making. Ahead of the fight, the MMA community is torn in regards to their predictions for the fight. While some believe that Daniel Cormier remaining active and defending his belt in Jon Jones’ absence will aid him in picking up a win, others believe that Jones will reclaim the light heavyweight title, and cement his place as the undisputed greatest 205 pounder of all time.

Friday morning, both UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones hit the scales ahead of their UFC 214 showdown tomorrow night in Anaheim, California. Ahead of the fight, there were speculations as to how the champ’s weight cut was going after he came in 1.2 pounds overweight for his previous fight agains Anthony Johnson, infamously pressing down on the privacy towel to offset his weight in order to make weight without cutting more weight.

Cris Cyborg forgives Dana White, hoping to sign new UFC contract

Former Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has had a very long, and tumultuous journey with the UFC. After finally being signed to the promotion last year, Cyborg competed at catchweight twice, before then being suspended by USADA for taking a pill to help her rehydrate. After being cleared of all wrongdoing by USADA, the stars finally aligned for the WMMA veteran to fight for the vacant women’s featherweight title. After Cyborg’s title fight was announced UFC President Dana White publicly stated that the UFC had made some mistakes in regards to how they handled Cyborg’s fights, and that they owed it to her to get her a title fight.

In UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s most recent fight, the champ caught quite a bit of criticism when he weighed in 1.2 pounds over the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds for his title defense with Anthony Johnson. Cormier then reemerged just moments later and pressed down on the privacy towel to offset his weight, in order to make weight without cutting the weight. UFC on FOX 25 took place last weekend and the UFC has updated their rankings following their event that took place in Long Island, New York. In the main event of the evening, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was able to get the monkey off his back and ended his three-fight losing streak by submitting Kelvin Gastelum in the third round. With the outcome of the match, both Weidman and Gastelum did not move in the UFC middleweight rankings as they both remain at their #5 and #8 respective positions.
ABC approves four new recommendations for MMA rules including TKO stoppages for pooping in competition

The recent news of the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) approval of four new weight classes in professional mixed martial arts was a big announcement for the future of the growing sport. In addition to the newly approved 165-pound, 175-pound, 195-pound and 225-pound divisions, the ABC unanimously approved of four new recommendations brought to them by its MMA Rules Committee. ABC rules committee chair Sean Wheelock told MMA Junkie that the four new approved recommendations could be implemented rather quickly as none of them require any current laws or statutes to be changed.

Several weeks ago, news surfaced that Conor McGregor had extended an offer to former boxing champion Paul Malignaggi to join Team McGregor as the UFC lightweight champ prepared for his historic boxing match against Floyd Mayweather. Malignaggi ultimately did end up joining Conor McGregor‘s camp, as a photo of the pair sparring broke the news to the combat sports community on social media. This weekend, in the main event of UFC 214, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will attempt to reclaim his title from the current champion and his arch rival Daniel Cormier. In the buildup to this fight, much has been made of Jones’ last-minute withdrawal from July 2016’s UFC 200, when he was last scheduled to meet Cormier. UFC President Dana White in particular has had plenty to say about the former champ’s withdrawal from the card. And apparently, Jones is getting tired of it. Speaking with Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, Jones explained that he is giving the UFC boss the silent treatment.

This Saturday, the UFC will touch down in sun-soaked Anaheim, California with UFC 214. The card stands out as the biggest of the year thus far, thanks in large part to the three title fights that top the bill. The biggest of these title fights, and the card’s main event, will occur at light heavyweight, where reigning champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones will battle for light heavyweight gold. The co-main event, meanwhile, will be a welterweight title fight between champ Tyron Woodley and challenger Demian Maia. The first title fight of the bunch, finally, will go down at featherweight, where women’s pound-for-pound stalwart Cris “Cyborg” Justino will battle former Invicta bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger for the vacant throne. Ahead of this massive fight, which will mark her long-awaited UFC debut, Evinger joined Ariel Helwani for a quick chat. During this discussion, Evinger made the somewhat surprising admission that she feels the UFC dislikes both her and Cyborg – she’s just not sure who the promotion dislikes more.

The fight, which has been scheduled and rescheduled several times in the past, is finally taking place this Saturday.
