After going on a social media tirade in true Diaz Brother fashion, it seems Nate Diaz is ready to get back in the Octagon. The return would mark the first time Diaz has stepped into the Octagon since dropping a majority decision to Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor almost a year and a half ago at UFC 202. Since the social media announcement, we’ve seen fighters flock from multiple weight classes looking to get the shot at fighting the famed Stockton native known for his consistently entertaining wars inside of the Octagon and for being the only man to defeat Conor McGregor in the UFC.

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s trip to Belem, Brazilian flyweight Priscila Cachoeira stepped into the Octagon for the first time. Despite the fact she was making her UFC debut with just 8 pro fights behind her, her opponent was the vastly more experienced Valentina Shevchenko, who is widely regarded as one of the best female fighters on earth. In the end, Cachoeira’s experiential deficit manifested itself in a truly lopsided win for Shevchenko. The Kyrgyzstani contender out-landed her young Brazilian by an insane 230-3 margin en route to a second-round submission win. It was one of the most brutal beatdowns to hit our screens in a long, long time.

Over the weekend, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was forced out of his planned UFC 222 title defense opposite Frankie Edgar with a leg injury. Shortly after this disappointing twist made headlines, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who owned the featherweight belt before Holloway, took a shot at the Hawaiian. McGregor took this shot on Instagram, sharing a photo from his 2013 decision win over Holloway.

Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko could not have been more impressive in her Saturday night flyweight debut, out-landing her opponent Priscila Cachoeira by a 230-3 margin en-route to a second-round submission win. Regrettably, much of the buzz surrounding this fight has been negative, as the widespread perception is that referee Mario Yamasaki let this ugly beatdown fester for far longer than it should have. Among those to trash the referee for his poor officiating was UFC President Dana White.

Last night, the UFC touched down in Belem, Brazil with UFC Fight Night 125. In the main event of this 11-fight card, struggling former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida turned back the clock with a close but impressive split decision win over formerly undefeated prospect Eryk Anders. In the co-main event, meanwhile, former UFC bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko authored one of the most lopsided victories of her impressive career thus far, eating Priscila Cachoeira alive in a brutal flyweight showdown. At present, the official fight purses for this entertaining card have not yet been disclosed. We do, however, know how much the 22 fighters on the bill earned through the UFC’s athlete outfitting deal with Reebok.

Last night, in the main event of the UFC’s stop in Belem, Brazil, former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida staved off Father Time with a sorely needed split decision win over young middleweight prospect Eryk Anders. With this win, Machida rebounded from a string of stoppage losses and kept himself afloat in the shark infested waters of the middleweight division. While Machida is now back in the win column, calls for his retirement have not exactly quieted. That said, the Brazilian legend still has a few more things he’d like to accomplish before he hangs up the gloves. One of these things is a fight with former UFC middleweight champion and fellow MMA veteran Michael Bisping.

Though Anders certainly didn’t make it easy for him, Machida ultimately earned his first win since December of 2014 with a split decision. Understandably, many members of the MMA community were very impressed by Machida’s turning away of Father Time. That said, many others felt the decision should have been awarded to Anders.

Last night, in the main event of the UFC’s stop in Belem, Brazil, former football player and current UFC middleweight prospect Eryk Anders took on the biggest test of his career thus far in former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Unfortunately for Anders, the amply more experienced Machida proved a little too much to handle, and he came up short via split decision after five rounds. While Eryk Anders has now tasted defeat for the first time as a pro mixed martial artist, he doesn’t seem to be too discouraged. In fact, he seems keen to treat this loss as a learning experience.
