Kevin Lee issues statement on weigh-in miss, gives explanation for extra pounds
Tom Taylor - April 20, 2018
This morning’s UFC Atlantic City weigh ins did not go according to plan, as two undercard bouts were cancelled, and a one half of the main event, Kevin Lee, missed weight. Lee tipped the scales at 157 pounds, one pound about the 156-pound limit for non-title lightweight fights. “The Motown Phenom” will be fined 20% of his purse for this hiccup, which will go to his foe Edson Barboza. Shortly after Lee stepped on the scale, he took to Instagram to issue a statement on the ordeal. In this statement, Lee reminded that he’s never missed weight as a pro—even despite a close shave in his last fight. He also gave an explanation for his failed weight cut, saying that he simply ran out of time.

Tom Taylor - April 20, 2018
On March 3, in the co-main event of UFC 222, former UFC lightweight champion and longtime featherweight contender Frankie Edgar experienced the first knockout loss of his illustrious career, succumbing to a first-round Brian Ortega uppercut. While fighters typically take a nice, long break after being knocked out, Edgar will do no such thing. Instead, he’ll return to action tomorrow night, when he rematches the hard-hitting Cub Swanson in the co-main event of UFC Atlantic City. Speaking on The TSN MMA Show. this week, Swanson gave his take on whether it might be too soon for Edgar’s comeback. While this thought has apparently crossed his mind, he’s determined to prepare for the best Frankie Edgar yet.

David Branch explains why he needed to lose to Luke Rockhold
Tom Taylor - April 20, 2018
Tomorrow night, on the main card of the UFC’s anticipated stop in Atlantic City, New Jersey, former two-division World Series of Fighting champion David Branch will take on surging middleweight knockout artist Thiago Santos. This bout will serve as Branch’s chance to rebound from a tough loss to former UFC champ Luke Rockhold — a loss he actually feels like he needed. “I was unraveling a little bit,” Branch told MMAJunkie, discussing his mentality around the time of his bout with Rockhold. “Sometimes it’s a little toxic to not lose in that long. That’s a long time. Having that champion mentality, it just let me know that I need to start over again like I did when I was over there [in WSOF]. It’s a process. I was just trying to replace something that was more ego-driven and me being a champion, I was just coming over here and wanted to be a champion again, just like I was the champ. I just forgot about the process.”

On the show, Gustafsson assured that, should he and Jones meet again in the future, he’ll come out on top. Evidently, Jones caught win of these comments, as he quickly went after his Swedish rival on Twitter.
