TJ Dillashaw discusses Cody Garbrandt's future: "I really don’t believe he’s got a chin"

Last night, in the main event of UFC 227, UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw defended his title against the very man he won it from, former UFC bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt. Just as he did in their first fight, which co-headlined UFC 217 in November, Dillashaw won this fight by knockout — but this time he did it even faster. Now 0-2 against the current champion, with both losses coming by way of knockout, the future looks nebulous for Garbrandt. Although he remains an incredibly dangerous challenge for most fighters, he will have to move mountains in order to earn another title shot as long as Dillashaw is king.

Cub Swanson entered tonight’s contest on a two-fight losing skid, with those setbacks coming to Frankie Edgar and Brian Ortega respectively. Prior to that, Swanson had put together a four-fight win streak which included victories over Artem Lobov, Hacran Dias and Doo Ho Choi.

The Stockton Slugger has not stepped foot in the octagon since UFC 202 in August of 2016, where he suffered a controversial majority decision loss to Conor McGregor.

USADA has already tested Brock Lesnar three times ahead of UFC return

Barring disaster, former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE star Brock Lesnar will get the next crack at UFC heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier. First, however, Lesnar will have to serve the remainder of a suspension imposed the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), and pass a battery of new drug tests to assure he is, in fact, clean. Apparently, USADA’s work with Lesnar is off to a good start. According to the USADA website, the hulking former champ has already been tested three times since his comeback was announced (via BloodyElbow). This website was updated on August 1, so it’s even possible Lesnar has been tested again since then.

Back in November, in the co-main event of UFC 217, Cody Garbrandt surrendered the UFC bantamweight title to his arch rival TJ Dillashaw, succumbing to a second-round punch. This Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 227, Garbrandt will attempt to reclaim that title from Dillashaw in an immediate rematch. It’s a monumental challenge for the young Team Alpha Male representative, and one that will bend the immediate trajectory of his career for better or for worse.
