Mickey Gall Says He Had Diarrhea All Through Fight Week

By Tom Taylor - September 12, 2016

On the main card of UFC 203, Mickey Gall did what the world expected and spoiled the UFC debut of WWE star CM Punk with a first-round rear-naked choke. The 24-year-old welterweight made it look easy.

As it turns out, however, the days leading up to Gall’s hyped fight with Punk were not so easy. Instead, he was plagued by stomach troubles. The young fighter bashfully admitted to these woes on Monday’s episode of the MMA Hour.

“I was having diarrhea for the last three days there,” Gall told Ariel Helwani on the show. “For my last two days of weight cutting, and then like the day of the fight. So that got me a little nervous. I was like ‘oh no am I going to get sick?’

Gall assured that dropping out of the fight never really crossed his mind, however.

“There’s no way I was going to pull out,” he said. “But I’m like ‘damn am I going to have to trudge through, wanting to crap my pants half the time?’ Come fight time I felt good though, and there was nothing that was gonna stop me.”

He also explained that he’s aware of what caused these stomach issues, and – surprise, surprise – they seem to be the fault of the infamous Cleveland fighter hotel.

“I always prepare all my own food—my Mom does,” Gall explained. “She helps me out big time. She slaved in the kitchen, cooked me up a whole lot of food that I bring out, you know, no salt, all good weight-cut food so I’m staying full and stuff, but the fridge I got in the room wasn’t good, and I think my food went bad. The fridge really wasn’t cold, and I found that out too late. I was eating these turkey burgers that gave me the shits.”

What do you think the future holds for the young Gall? Sound off, PENN nation!
