Nunes of course picked up a dominant 48 second TKO win over Rousey, defending her title, and handing Rousey the second straight loss of her UFC career.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor is currently on an indefinite hiatus from the Octagon due to the upcoming birth of his firstborn child. After his historic UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez in November, the two-division champion announced that he would be taking some time away from the Octagon due to the birth of his child in May. In the meantime, the UFC has booked Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson for an interim lightweight title fight, with the winner facing McGregor when he returns to the Octagon.

Earlier this month, middleweight legend and possible MMA GOAT Anderson Silva made waves by suggesting that, despite the massive weight disparity between them, he’d be interested in a catchweight super fight with Conor McGregor. “Now that I’m old, I’m beginning to challenge everyone,” Silva told Globo TV of a bout with McGregor, who currently owns the UFC lightweight crown. “Oh, I want to beat this dwarf… what’s the boy’s name again? McGregor. It is not provocation. It’s just that I forget, I’m old. Old men know what it’s like. I have this urge to test myself against him. I think he’s a guy who has an unusual ability. I do not know if he would reach a weight of 81, 82 kg, which is the weight I can get to, but it’s a guy I’d like to test myself before I end my career. UFC President Dana White recently made Floyd Mayweather an offer to fight Conor McGregor for a guaranteed $25 million and a split of pay-per-view buys to be negotiated.

In early 2017, talks of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight picked up steam as Mayweather offered McGregor $15 million to accept the boxing match. While McGregor of course didn’t publicly fire back at Mayweather, UFC President Dana White was quick to make a counteroffer as he offered the undefeated prizefighter $25 million to fight McGregor, with McGregor also getting an even $25 million. Mayweather of course wasn’t satisfied with the $25 million dollar offer, and called UFC President Dana White a comedian as he reiterated that he would not fight for less than $100 million. Throughout all of this, boxing promoter Bob Arum has maintained that the talks are all meaningless, saying:

UFC lightweight, Tony Ferguson (22-3), will be fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0) for the interim lightweight title at UFC 209 on March 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The two top contenders were initially suppose to meet December 2015. However, Nurmagomedov pulled out due to injury, and the fight was rescheduled for April 2016 until Ferguson withdrew due to injury, also.

The biggest ongoing story in combat sports today surrounds the possibility of a mega-fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather. Over the course of the last year, there have been ceaseless headlines about this bout. After UFC President Dana White made Mayweather what he called a “real offer” of $25 million earlier this month, buzz about this prospective battle reached new heights. Of course, Mayweather is not the only boxer keen on welcoming McGregor to the boxing ring, he’s simply the most high-profile to do so.
