Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi’s Twitter beef is back on

By Thomas Taylor - August 11, 2018

This time last year, Conor McGregor was closing in on his headline-dominating boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. His biggest opponent outside the ring, however, was retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi.

Conor McGregor, Paulie Malignaggi

McGregor and Malignaggi went from allies to enemies in a matter of weeks. Initially, Malignaggi was brought into McGregor’s training camp to help him prepare for his debut boxing match. After McGregor and his team began gloating about an alleged knockdown that the Irishman allegedly scored on the boxer in a sparring session, things promptly went south.

The pair engaged in numerous social media skirmishes, and even had words in person a few times. While McGregor seemed ready to let this one go once his fight with Mayweather was in the rear-view, Malignaggi was not, and even attempted to set up a boxing match with the MMA star.

Eventually, of course, this beef fizzled out.

Unfortunately, it’s been resuscitated one the one year anniversary of McGregor’s alleged knockdown of Malignaggi.

Round two of this high-profile combat sports beef started when McGregor reflected on the infamous Malignaggi knockdown on Twitter.

“Time flies when you are on your ass,” the Irish MMA star said.

This prompted Paulie Malignaggi to fire back at the Irishman.

“Dude has had 2 kids and an ass kicking since this and he still lives off a fake knockdown that he knows wasn’t real lol,” Malignaggi said on Twitter. [Conor McGregor] your feelings are still hurt? Dont get ur feelings hurt u lil bitch its still our lil secret. Dont run for your life when they ring the bell.”

So, just like that, the beef is back on. Conor McGregor, of course, is currently scheduled for a title fight with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, which is scheduled for UFC 229 on October 6. So any potential grudge match with Malignaggi will have to wait.
