Charles Oliveira remains dismissive of critics following BMF win over Max Holloway: “Fighting doesn’t work like that”

Charles Oliveira continues to scold critics for what they are saying about his recent win.

Oliveira went one-on-one with Max Holloway in the UFC 326 main event back in March. The BMF Championship was on the line, so many were expecting a barn burner. Oliveira had other plans, as he turned in a dominant grappling performance to secure the unanimous decision win.

During a chat with CasinoHawks, Oliveira said those who were upset with the fight would’ve criticized him even if he swung wild.

“What do I make of the criticism I received after the BMF title win over Max Holloway? Now I’m going to ask all of you a question: If I’d stood and traded with Max Holloway like I did in other fights and got knocked out, what would you have said? I know. ‘Stupid as f*ck instead of using his jiu-jitsu,'” Oliveira said. “Because when I got knocked out by Topuria, everyone said the same thing. ‘Stupid as f*ck, all he had to do was grapple.’ How do you want me to fight? Is it like a video game?

“Are you going to tell me on the internet how I’m supposed to fight? ‘Go in there just doing flashy stuff, just stay on the jab.’ Fighting doesn’t work like that. You only win a fight if you build a strategy, go in there and win. Every time I’ve had a strategy and gone away from it, I lose, and then the internet goes mad. When I came in and fought properly – put on a show, because I wasn’t just holding Max doing nothing, I was putting on a show, trying to submit, showing skills, making transitions, landing shots – then suddenly the fight was bad.”

Oliveira is now right back in title contention. While his next fight hasn’t been determined, some are calling for Oliveira to have a rematch with Arman Tsarukyan.

Currently, Oliveira is the No. 3-ranked UFC lightweight. Only Tsarukyan, Justin Gaethje, and Ilia Topuria are ahead of him.
