What’s next for Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway after UFC 326?

The UFC was in Las Vegas, Nevada, for UFC 326 on Saturday. The main event saw Max Holloway defending his BMF title in a rematch against Charles Oliveira.
Holloway entered the fight coming off a decision win over Dustin Poirier to defend the BMF belt. Oliveira, meanwhile, was coming off a submission win over Mateusz Gamrot to get back into the win column.
In the end, it was Oliveira who dominated Holloway for all five rounds to cruise to a lopsided decision win. Following UFC 326, here is what I think should be next for the star lightweights.
Charles Oliveira
Charles Oliveira entered the rematch against Max Holloway as the underdog, and many expected him to struggle against the Hawaiian’s pressure and new power at lightweight. However, Oliveira used his wrestling and strength to take Holloway down for all five rounds and control him to get a lopsided decision win.
With the win, Oliveira became the BMF champion, but his future at lightweight is murky. He was just knocked out by Ilia Topuria in the first round last June, so it’s unlikely he will get another crack at Topuria. So, instead, Oliveira should rematch Arman Tsarukyan in a No. 1 contender fight, with the winner getting a title shot. The two fought at UFC 300, and it was Tsarukyan who edged out a split decision.
Max Holloway
Max Holloway entered his UFC 326 BMF title defense with plenty of confidence. However, he struggled against Oliveira as he couldn’t stop the takedowns or get back to his feet, losing a lopsided decision.
Holloway will be back to the drawing board, and with the loss, there is a massive fight he could get next. If Conor McGregor is indeed returning, a rematch against Holloway makes a lot of sense, as both aren’t near the title picture and it’s a massive fan-favorite fight. But, if McGregor doesn’t come back, a bout against Dan Hooker makes sense as both are fan-friendly strikers in what could be a Fight Night main event.
