Tuesday at the first Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor press conference, the pair kicked off their world tour, as well as begun their trash talk for the highly anticipated event. McGregor spoke to the audience in attendance at the Staples Center first, before then passing the microphone over to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather continued the war of words, as he launched several scathing attacks at the UFC champion, who had his mic cut during Mayweather’s speech. When the pair came face to face for their first staredown at the end of the press conference, it was clear that the trash talk had only just begun as the pair continued to talk trash face to face.
Following the press conference, both men had separate media scrums backstage, where Floyd Mayweather Sr. took it upon himself to crash McGregor’s media scrum.
Conor McGregor of course was quick to fire back at Mayweather Sr. immediately verbally countering the elder Mayweather’s trash talk without missing a beat.
The pair exchanged words, while McGregor appeared to repeatedly get the best of Mayweather Sr. in the verbal exchanges as media members in attendance cheered and laughed in excitement as McGregor taunted Mayweather Sr. repeatedly throughout the course of the several-minute exchange, while Mayweather Sr. repeatedly stated that he would “whoop your (McGregor’s) ass” until a member of his team finally ushered Mayweather Sr. out of the media scrum.
This marks the first time McGregor and Mayweather Sr. have talked trash face to face following their war of words in the media leading up to the fight, which saw McGregor clown Mayweather Jr. for his age, as he has repeatedly referred to Floyd Mayweather Sr. as Floyd Mayweather Jr, an obvious jab at Mayweather Jr. being 40 years of age.
