Gilbert Melendez Looking Forward To ‘Punching Someone In The Face’

By BJPENN.COM News - May 27, 2015

UFC lightweight Gilbert Melendez is set to go to war with former Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez in Mexico City.

‘El Nino’ talked with BJPENN.COM’s Layzie The Savage about his upcoming fight and what he plans on accomplishing.

“I’m gonna bust Eddie Alvarez’s ass up and celebrate in Mexico,” said the smiling Melendez.“I think it’s a good fight. It’s one I’ve been waiting for – I like the story behind it and I’m looking forward to fighting Eddie. It’s always been out of respect but at times it’s got personal, so I’m pumped. I’m looking forward to punching someone and hurting someone and I feel like he feels the same, so it’s gonna be a good one. The timing make sense and it’s a recipe for a great fight.”

Melendez has fought three times under the UFC banner, losing twice in title matches and winning a fight over Diego Sanchez, which was widely considered to be a FOTY candidate. Melendez is hoping to once again climb to the top of the division and it stars with a win over the always tough Alvarez.
