Jon Jones sends heartfelt message to retiring Vitor Belfort, suggests future grappling rematch

Tom Taylor - May 15, 2018

Last weekend, on the main card of UFC 224, Vitor Belfort stepped into the UFC’s Octagon for what’s believed to be the last time. Unfortunately, his retirement fight didn’t go the way he planned, as he was put down by a second-round crane kick from his opponent Lyoto Machida. Despite this unfortunate twist, Belfort’s retirement fight generated a tidal wave of support, respect and congratulations from his fans and peers. One of the latest members of the MMA community to send a message of respect to the retiring Vitor Belfort is his former opponent, former UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones.

Vitor Belfort breaks silence on KO loss to Lyoto Machida

Tom Taylor - May 14, 2018

Last weekend, on the main card of UFC 224, MMA legend Vitor Belfort stepped into the UFC’s Octagon for a final time. His opponent in this swan song was a fellow Brazilian legend in Lyoto Machida. Regrettably, Belfort’s Hall-of-Fame worthy career didn’t wrap up the way he planned. Instead, he had his batteries removed by a second-round front-kick to the face — the very same maneuver that Anderson Silva used to beat him in 2011, and the same kick Machida used to retire Randy Couture that same year.

Vitor Belfort is retiring at UFC 224 — but maybe not forever

Tom Taylor - March 29, 2018

At UFC 224, which goes down on May 12 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, MMA legend Vitor Belfort will compete in the final fight of his career opposite another Brazilian hero in Lyoto Machida. Yet while Belfort has assured for some time that this will be his last fight, it doesn’t sound like that is completely set in stone. “It’s what I said: in reality, it will be my final fight and my journey is ending,” Belfort told MMAJunkie. “But [there’s] nothing that a good contract – what, seven digits? – can’t do in terms of helping us return. I’ll keep training. I love doing this. But there needs to be a meaning. There needs to be a purpose and it needs to be something that makes sense.”

Vitor Belfort Blasts 'Scared' Michael Bisping for Refusing to Fight Him

Justin Golightly - January 17, 2018

The middleweight division was about to get rewound back to normal, that is until Robert Whittaker got injured. That’s not the only curve ball the division got thrown. Urijah Hall failed to weigh in and was taken out of his fight with Vitor Belfort. Many jumped to the conclusion that this opened the door for Belfort to fight former rival Michael Bisping in a double retirement fight at UFC London. It seemed like the fight was more than just talk, until Bisping said he wanted nothing to do with the ‘cheat’. Belfort isn’t taking no for an answer though, coming back with a social media low blow. “What a shame Michael Bisping. The UFC just informed me that you have declined the fight. I understand you are scared. The images above pretty much explain it all. So stop pretending that you are tough and just admit that you are afraid. And I thought you were man enough to step up in the octagon with me again, my mistake. Unfortunately, it looks like we will not be delivering to the fans the fight they want to see. Happy retirement, you must be feeling amazing leaving the sport through the back door. To be a legend is not for everyone.” — Vitor Belfort on his official Instagram.

Vitor Belfort is waiting to be paid for cancelled fight, demands respect from UFC

Tom Taylor - January 14, 2018

If things had gone according to plan, MMA legend Vitor Belfort would have fought the last fight of his career opposite Uriah Hall in the co-main event of tonight’s UFC St. Louis card. Regrettably, Hall was hospitalized as the result of his weight cut, which nixed Belfort’s retirement plans. Though Belfort has made it clear that he doesn’t fault Hall for the last-minute cancellation of this fight, he still expects to be paid by the UFC, as he showed up in St. Louis, and made weight for his fight. Belfort shared his grievances in an Instagram post in his native Portuguese.

Tom Taylor - January 14, 2018

If things had gone according to the original plan, MMA legend Vitor Belfort would compete in the final fight of his illustrious MMA career this very evening, as he was scheduled to battle Uriah Hall in the co-main event of the UFC’s anticipated debut in St. Louis. Regrettably, Hall was hospitalized in the midst of his weight cut, which of course meant that Belfort’s retirement fight was put on ice. Luckily, it seems that the Brazilian legend already has a new date for his retirement fight. According to a report from Combate, Belfort will battle Michael Bisping when the UFC touches down in London on March 17. The expectation is that this bout will also be Bisping’s retirement fight.

Now another big scrap has just been struck down. As we all know, the UFC scales remain undefeated. Uriah Hall failed to weigh in early this morning for his fight with legend Vitor Belfort. As a result, the UFC has pulled the co-main event from the card this Sunday and as of right now there are no news as to what will be bumped up into that slot. UFC has made it official. If Vitor Belfort moves to Bellator, he could have a very familiar welcome committee

Tom Taylor - June 14, 2017

On June 24, in the main event of Bellator’s stacked Bellator NYC card, Brazilian MMA legend Wanderlei Silva will make his debut in the Bellator cage. His opponent in this debut will be a longstanding rival in three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen. No matter the outcome of this fight with Sonnen, Silva is hoping that, one day, he’ll have the opportunity to take on another rival in the Bellator cage: Vitor Belfort. Silva and Belfort first met all the way back in 1998, in the early days of the UFC. On that night, a young Belfort scored an abrupt and decisive upset win over Silva, knocking him out in just 44 seconds.

Vitor Belfort agrees to Nate Marquardt's challenge

Tom Taylor - June 12, 2017

Earlier this month, on the main card of UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, MMA veterans Vitor Belfort and Nate Marquardt collided in an interesting, middleweight clash. In the end, Belfort would win this fight with a rather controversial decision. Though this fight was initially expected to be Belfort’s retirement fight, he was quick to correct this perception, first stating that he planned to continue fighting outside the UFC, then that he actually planned on taking 5 or so more fights inside the UFC’s Octagon.
