Till and Whittaker were expected to headline UFC Dublin but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus. But, it was quickly rebooked for July 25 where the two have been taken shots at one another where the two even pitched a catchweight so they could drink and eat.

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has opened up as a small favorite over Darren Till for their summer showdown. It was revealed this week by Combate that the UFC is targeting a middleweight pairing between Whittaker and Till to headline an event on Fight Island on July 25. The pair were previously scheduled to headline the UFC Dublin card in August, but like all international UFC events, that fight card was wiped out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Ariel Helwani of ESPN, Whittaker is out of his scheduled fight against Jared Cannonier at UFC 248 due to personal reasons. Helwani added that the UFC would like to keep Cannonier on the card but no opponent has been found to replace Whittaker as of now. There was no further information given as to why Whittaker is out of the fight.

He’s hoping to do so with a fight that eluded him previously: a matchup with former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. Gastelum and Whittaker were scheduled to fight for the middleweight title in Australia in early 2019, when Whittaker still held the belt. Unfortunately, after a gruelling training for both parties, the fight was derailed at the last minute when Whittaker withdrew from the fight with a severe abdominal hernia that required emergency surgery.
