Paul Daley has been the subject of many fight rumors this week, most notably against Michael Venom Page. Paul Daley made a big statement on his Facebook page, teasing a fight against a “marquee name or champion”.
Daley last fought at Bellator 170 where he defeated former middleweight Brennan Ward via devastating Flying Knee knockout. The Englishman has been on a stunning run of 4-1 since joining Bellator in 2015. His only loss came to current Welterweight Champion Douglas Lima, losing by unanimous decision in July.
Daley is expected to fight at Bellator London, with the location expected to be announced shortly. There are many names who could fight Daley in London, names like Douglas Lima, Michael Page, Benson Henderson or even Rory Macdonald.
Andrey Koreshkov was rumored originally for “Semtex” but that was quickly shut down after Koreshkov was booked for Bellator 174 against Fernando Gonzalez. The former champion would of been a great test for the Englishman.
A fight against Henderson could be likely after Daley said he was on his hit-list for 2017. Benson last fought at Bellator 165 in November against current Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler.
Douglas could be next but it’s unlikely since the pair had already fought in London a few months ago. The first fight was a clear win for Lima after the two had gone the distance.
One of the most likely opponents for Daley is former UFC Welterweight title challenger Rory Macdonald. Macdonald hasn’t fought since losing to Stephen Thompson via Unanimous decision in June. The Canadian has yet to make his promotional debut, and a fight between the two UFC vets would excite many fans.
The most likely scenario is that he takes on Michael “Venom” Paige at Bellator London with the winner fighting for the title before the end of they year. Paige has been calling for this fight on Twitter for a few days now. The fight would ensure fireworks for the fans.
Bellator is set to make an announcement next week.
