Fan favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone made a lot of noise with his controversial criticism of Daniel Cormier’s performance against Anderson Silva at UFC 200. After Cerrone’s comment was circulated all over the Internet, “Cowboy” was criticized by ONE Champion’s welterweight champ, Ben Askren. Askren addressed Cerrone directly in his Facebook video post saying, ““It’s disgusting and if you were actually half as tough as you talk or you think you are, somewhere in over the decade of mixed martial arts you’ve done you would have learned how to stop a takedown but you are weak and you aren’t smart.”

The world champion of the 205-pound weight class had the edge in weight over the former middleweight champ, who came in on two days notice. Cormier used his wrestling to take Silva to the ground and controlled him for the majority of the fight.

The only two of Lawler’s past 6 fights to not win an award were his TKO isn over Jake Ellenberger, and his split decision win over Johny Hendricks in which he won the welterweight championship. When Jon Jones was pulled from UFC 200 with just two days to go until his main event scrap with Daniel Cormier, there was much speculation as to what would happen to Daniel Cormier in regards to his involvement in the historic card. Fortunately, former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva stepped in on just two days notice to fight Cormier in a 3 round main-card fight. While Cormier was criticized for what many perceived to be ‘playing it safe’, the light heavyweight champ revealed on The MMA Hour this week that he actually went as far as to take a pay cut for the fight because of his desire to fight:
