We’re now just a few months away from the UFC’s November 12 debut in Madison Square Garden, which will mark the culmination of a hellacious battle to legalize mixed martial arts in the state of New York. As we celebrate the imminent arrival of the UFC in New York, however, the New York State Athletic Commission has confirmed a decision that is likely to drive many boxing promotions and small-time MMA promotions out of the state altogether.

Next weekend, former WWE superstar CM Punk will make his first foray into mixed martial arts. He’ll be taking on talented 24-year-old Mickey Gall on the main card of UFC 203. Prior to his signing with the UFC, which was announced on the main card of UFC 181 back in 2014, Punk had no real martial arts experience. Given this experiential deficit, he’s been given very little chance against Gall–who has only had 2 pro fights himself.

LOL: Polish-German Welterweight Peter Sobotta Says He Will Rep Jamaica in His Next Fight

Tom Taylor - September 2, 2016

UFC welterweight Peter Sobotta was born in Poland and raised in Germany. Because of this, he feels an allegiance to both countries. Unfortunately, this dual-allegiance tends to make things difficult when Sobotta has to decide which country to represent for his UFC bouts. “So this question, ‘Are you Polish or are you German?’ – I really don’t like this question, because I have two hearts,” Sobotta explained in a recent interview with The Sun. “I have this Polish side and this German side, and whatever I say, someone gets annoyed because of this.”

Flyweight Champ Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson is After Seven-Figure Paydays

Tom Taylor - September 2, 2016

While many UFC fighters are still severely underpaid, others are starting to rake in some seriously hefty paydays. At UFC 196, Conor McGregor became the first UFC fighter to make a disclosed $1 million for a fight. At UFC 200, WWE superstar Brock Lesnar blew past that record with a $2.5 million payday. At UFC 202, McGregor reclaimed the biggest payday record with a disclosed purse of $3 million, while his opponent Nate Diaz claimed a sizeable $2 million. Indeed, while most fighters still don’t make what they should, the precedent for big paydays now exists.

Alexander Gustafsson looking forward despite narrow losses in title fights

bjpenndotcom - September 1, 2016

Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson has arguably been on the wrong end of two of the closest decision in UFC history. In the main event of UFC 165 in 2013, Gustafsson and Jon Jones put on what many consider to be the greatest light heavyweight title fight in the history of the sport. Unfortunately for Gustafsson, after 5 hard-fought rounds, the judges awarded Jones with a unanimous decision win.
