CB Dollaway's back injury result of elevator mishap prior to UFC 203

Friday evening, UFC President Dana White took to Twitter with a screenshot of a text message conversation between himself and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. In the text, Cerrone informed White that he was already in Las Vegas, and willing to step in to fight Francimar Barroso after CB Dollaway pulled out of their scheduled fight on just 24 hours notice. While the details regarding the circumstances behind Dollaway pulling out of the fight were not immediately revealed, MMAFighting has now received word that Dollaway was forced out of the fight with a back injury. Surprisingly, Dollaway didn’t injury his back during a last-minute training session. The TUF veteran was one of several UFC fighters trapped on an elevator in a hotel in Cleveland.

'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler out of UFC 205 fight with 'Cowboy' Cerrone

Robbie Lawler has pulled out of his UFC 205 matchup with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone just three days after the fight was announced, according to TMZ. Lawler says he is not injured but wants more time to recover following a brutal knockout loss in late July. The UFC is currently looking for a new opponent for ‘Cowboy’.

Stefan Struve left opponent-less for UFC 204

Unfortunate news has surfaced in regards to UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve’s fight with Ruslan Magomedov at UFC 204. According to MMAJunkie, Magomedov was forced to pull out of the scheduled bout this week after it was revealed that he has a staph infection.

UFC 205, which is scheduled for November 12 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, is quickly coming together. Earlier this week, it was announced that a lightweight bout between Al Iaquinta and Thiago Alves had been tacked onto the bill. Days later, we learned that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Robbie Lawler would also be fighting on the card. Rumors also suggest that Chris Weidman will be fighting at the garden, while his teammate Aljamain Sterling is also eager to earn a spot on the card. Yet none of the aforementioned fights, whether they’ve been made official or not, are big enough to serve as UFC 205’s main event. The card, after all, marks the culmination of an arduous battle to legalize MMA in the state of New York. It’s a celebration. As such, it’s main event will need to be huge.

Earlier this year, UFC President Dana White announced that the UFC had signed 1-0 Mickey Gall, with the intentions of him eventually fighting CM Punk. Unfortunately, Punk’s debut was postponed several times due to injuries. In the meantime, the UFC booked Mickey Gall to fight Mike Jackson. Gall left the MMA world stunned as he picked up a spectacular 1st round finish.

Former top ranked UFC middleweight Rousimar Palhares is widely believed to possess some of the best Jiu-Jitsu in MMA. With 15 of his 18 wins coming by way of submission, not many fighters want to go to the ground with ‘Toquinho’. Unfortunately, the same submissions that leave MMA fans stunned, have also got Palhares into quite a bit of trouble. On several occasions, Palhares has held onto submissions despite his opponents tapping out. This ultimately got him kicked out of the UFC, stripped of the WSOF title, and suspended for 2 years by the NSAC.
UFC 203 Weigh-In Results: Overeem Gets Fined, One Fighter Misses Weight

On Friday morning, the 22 fighters competing on Saturday night’s UFC 203 took to the scales to weigh in for battle (they’ll take the scales again for the unofficial, ceremonial weigh-ins later today). The card, which will emanate from Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena, will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Cleveland-based champion Stipe Miocic and accomplished veteran Alistair Overeem. Co-headlining honors will go to former champion Fabricio Werdum, and Travis Browne, who stepped up to replace an injured Ben Rothwell on short notice. The rest of the main card, meanwhile, will see WWE star CM Punk make his MMA debut against the young Mickey Gall, while rising bantamweight Jimmie Rivera takes a big step up against Urijah Faber, and Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood takes on Jessica Andrade in a compelling strawweight showdown. The undercard, finally features some of the UFC’s best talent, from veterans, to contenders, to prospects.

Tomorrow night in Cleveland, Ohio, former WWE champion CM Punk will make his highly anticipated UFC debut against the undefeated Mickey Gall. Ahead of the fight, the MMA community seems to be split in regards to their opinion on Punk being given the fight. While some are happy that at 37-years old Punk will get to fulfill his goal of competing in an MMA fight, others believe that with a 0-0 amateur record, Punk has no business competing in the Octagon despite the fact that he has been training full time at Roufusport gym in Milwaukee.

Earlier this year, England’s Michael Bisping shocked the world by flattening Luke Rockhold to win the UFC middleweight crown. From there, logic suggested the Brit would defend his title in a rematch with Rockhold, or against another top-flight middleweight in Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza or Yoel Romero. Instead, the next middleweight title shot was awarded to a 46-year-old Dan Henderson. The aging vet will take on Bisping in Manchester, England, in the main event of UFC 204 this October 8.
