Saturday night at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, hometown superstar Stipe Miocic will look to defend his UFC heavyweight title against arguably the most decorated fighter in the UFC, Alistair Overeem. Ahead of the fight, the MMA community is rather torn on who they think will fin the fight. While some believe that Overeem’s elite level striking will result in him leaving ‘The Land’ with the heavyweight strap, others believe that Miocic will continue his 3-fight win streak and retain his heavyweight strap.

Earlier this year, the MMA community was left stunned as UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was knocked out cold by Stipe Miocic, who landed a spectacular counter-punch that knocked out Werdum. Tonight at UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio, ‘Vai Calvao’ will have the opportunity to return to the win column and potentially earn himself a title shot against the winner of Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem. A win for Werdum, who is ranked as the #1 contender on the UFC’s official heavyweight rankings, ahead of former champion Cain Velasquez, would likely cement Werdum’s place at the top of the heavyweight division.

Prior to UFC 203, UFC middleweight CB Dollaway was pulled from his scheduled fight with Francimar Barroso after it was revealed that he sustained a back injury the night before their scheduled UFC 203 fight. While details regarding the injury weren’t immediately available, a report emerged shortly after that Dollaway was one of several UFC 203 fighters stuck on an elevator the night before the fight. Unfortunately, Dollaway was injured in the elevator mishap, and was forced to withdraw from the bout with a back injury.

Friday evening, UFC President Dana White took to Twitter with a screenshot of a text message conversation between himself and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. In the text, Cerrone informed White that he was already in Las Vegas, and willing to step in to fight Francimar Barroso after CB Dollaway pulled out of their scheduled fight on just 24 hours notice. While the details regarding the circumstances behind Dollaway pulling out of the fight were not immediately revealed, MMAFighting has now received word that Dollaway was forced out of the fight with a back injury. Surprisingly, Dollaway didn’t injury his back during a last-minute training session. The TUF veteran was one of several UFC fighters trapped on an elevator in a hotel in Cleveland.

Robbie Lawler has pulled out of his UFC 205 matchup with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone just three days after the fight was announced, according to TMZ. Lawler says he is not injured but wants more time to recover following a brutal knockout loss in late July. The UFC is currently looking for a new opponent for ‘Cowboy’.

Unfortunate news has surfaced in regards to UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve’s fight with Ruslan Magomedov at UFC 204. According to MMAJunkie, Magomedov was forced to pull out of the scheduled bout this week after it was revealed that he has a staph infection.

UFC 205, which is scheduled for November 12 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, is quickly coming together. Earlier this week, it was announced that a lightweight bout between Al Iaquinta and Thiago Alves had been tacked onto the bill. Days later, we learned that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Robbie Lawler would also be fighting on the card. Rumors also suggest that Chris Weidman will be fighting at the garden, while his teammate Aljamain Sterling is also eager to earn a spot on the card. Yet none of the aforementioned fights, whether they’ve been made official or not, are big enough to serve as UFC 205’s main event. The card, after all, marks the culmination of an arduous battle to legalize MMA in the state of New York. It’s a celebration. As such, it’s main event will need to be huge.

Earlier this year, UFC President Dana White announced that the UFC had signed 1-0 Mickey Gall, with the intentions of him eventually fighting CM Punk. Unfortunately, Punk’s debut was postponed several times due to injuries. In the meantime, the UFC booked Mickey Gall to fight Mike Jackson. Gall left the MMA world stunned as he picked up a spectacular 1st round finish.
