Cody Garbrandt would love to return at UFC 214
Tom Taylor - May 30, 2017
If things had gone according to plan for bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt, he’d be fighting his arch rival TJ Dillashaw at UFC 213 this July 8. Regrettably, the champ was forced out of this hotly anticipated contest with a back injury. Luckily, Garbrandt has received the necessary treatment for his back troubles, and he’s now easing toward his recovery and eventual return to the cage.
Cat Zingano reveals Cris Cyborg fight being discussed
bjpenndotcom - May 30, 2017
Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano has been absent from the Octagon for nearly a year. In her most recent Octagon appearance at UFC 200 in July of 2016, Zingano returned to the Octagon following a year long hiatus that followed her first round submission loss to Ronda Rousey. When she made her return nearly a year ago, she was handed a unanimous decision loss from Julianna Pena, marking two straight defeats. While Zingano has taken quite a bit of time off between her last two fights, she isn’t looking to take any tune-up fights when she returns to the Octagon. In fact, Zingano welcomes a fight with arguably the most feared woman in the UFC, Cris Cyborg.

The future of the UFC's women's featherweight division is looking grim
Tom Taylor - May 30, 2017
Back in February, Germaine de Randamie and Holly Holm collided to crown the UFC’s first-ever women’s featherweight champion. Though there was a definite asterisk attached to this title fight due to the fact that it did not involve Cris “Cyborg” Justino – the division’s consensus best fighter – it was an exciting time for women’s MMA all the same. Unfortunately, the trouble for the new women’s featherweight division began almost immediately, as this inaugural title fight oozed with controversy.
Alexander Gustafsson thanks Glover Teixeira and fans following win
bjpenndotcom - May 30, 2017
This past weekend, top ranked UFC light heavyweight contender Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson picked up an extremely impressive and dominant win over former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Glover Teixeira. While it took Gustafsson until the 5th round to actually finish Teixeira, ‘The Mauler’ managed to knock Texeira down twice throughout the fight, out-striking his opponent 108-62 on total strikes, as well as 97-42 on significant strikes.

Daniel Cormier: I'd sleep "Gustafsson's cheerleader" Jimi Manuwa
Tom Taylor - May 30, 2017
Last weekend, during the UFC’s latest trip to Stockholm, Sweden, British light heavyweight contender Jimi Manuwa was on site to support his training partner Alexander Gustafsson as he battled Glover Teixeira. When Gustafsson won this fight via fifth-round knockout, Manuwa was unsurprisingly supportive. Manuwa’s post-fight applause of Gustafsson generated a response from UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who pointed out that, in victory, Gustafsson may have jumped ahead of Manuwa in the race for a title shot. This comment from DC then generated a response from a fan, which in turn started a heated Twitter battle with Manuwa.
Germaine de Randamie issues statement on Cyborg, says she hopes to return to bantamweight
Tom Taylor - May 30, 2017
Earlier this year, in the main event of UFC 208, Dutch striker Germaine de Randamie outworked Holly Holm to become the UFC’s first-ever women’s featherweight champion. The understanding was that, from there, she would then defend against the featherweight division’s consensus best fighter, Cris “Cyborg” Justino. This is not the way things have unfolded.
SI Swimsuit model and Muay Thai fighter Mia Kang eyeing MMA competition
Russell Ess - May 29, 2017
Don’t let the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model job description fool you because Mia Kang is a fighter, too. After spending a good part of her life in the modeling industry and going through every eating disorder in the book, one experience in a Muay Thai fight camp in 2016 changed Kang’s outlook on life and gave her a new understanding of her body.
Charles Oliveira wants to return to the featherweight division
Tom Taylor - May 29, 2017
Charles Oliveira has had an unfortunately long list of failed cuts to the featherweight division’s 145-pound cap. His latest failed cut occurred back in November, when he missed weight for a featherweight bout with Ricardo Lamas by a whopping 10 pounds. In the wake of this failed cut to featherweight – which culminated in a submission loss – Oliveira was sent back up to lightweight where the cut would be less severe. He made his lightweight return against former Bellator champ Will Brooks, and he couldn’t have looked better in doing so, locking up a standing rear-naked choke for the win.
Yair Rodriguez gives timetable for Octagon return
Tom Taylor - May 29, 2017
Earlier this month, on the main card of the stacked UFC 211, red hot Mexican featherweight prospect Yair Rodriguez faced the biggest test of his career in Frankie Edgar. Regrettably for Rodriguez and his legions of fans, it did not turn out to be his night, as he was taken out by his far more experienced foe. This, of course, is not the way he hoped things would go. Rodriguez looked back on the loss in a recent interview with BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor:
Angela Magana's Instagram account has been deleted
Tom Taylor - May 29, 2017
You’re probably very familiar with the story by now: earlier this month, at the UFC athletes retreat in Las Vegas, Nevada, UFC featherweight star Cris “Cyborg” Justino punched UFC strawweight Angela Magana. This blowout occurred after Magana made several offensive posts about Cyborg on social media. In the wake of this unfortunate event, many members of the MMA community seem to be siding with Cyborg – though Magana is pressing charges and the UFC is investigating the issue.

The bout is being targeted for UFC 215, which is scheduled for August 19 in Seattle, Washington. UFC would like to book Francis Ngannou vs. Junior dos Santos for the yet-to-be announced 8/19 PPV, per sources, but it’s not done yet.
