Dana White on Travis Browne: "I think that Travis should retire"

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2017

Last night, on the final fight of the UFC 213 undercard, Travis Browne attempted to correct a three-fight losing streak against the dangerous Alexey Oleinik. Though Browne had a few moments of success early on, this fight ultimately turned out disastrously for him, as he was stopped by a second-round rear-naked choke. With this outcome, Browne falls onto a four-fight skid, having recently been defeated by Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Derrick Lewis and Oleinik. This unfortunate skid has led many fans and pundits to speculate that it might be time for the towering Hawaiian heavyweight to hang up the gloves.

Amanda Nunes gives "her side" of the story on her UFC 213 withdrawal

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2017

If things had gone according to plan, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes would have taken on rival Valentina Shevchenko in the main event of last night’s anticipated UFC 213 card. Regrettably, Nunes took ill in the week leading up to the fight, and was ultimately forced out of the bout on the very day it was scheduled to occur. In the wake of this withdrawal, Nunes has found herself under fire – particularly from UFC President Dana White, who suggested her affliction was mostly mental.

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2017

Originally, last night’s UFC 213 was supposed to be the biggest card of the year thus far. Thanks to an unfortunate series of events, however, that title now belongs firmly to UFC 214, which goes down on July 29 in Anaheim California. This card will feature a whopping three title fights. The first will go down at featherweight, where Cris “Cyborg” Justino will collide with Tonya Evinger for the vacant throne. The second will occur at welterweight, where champ Tyron Woodley will attempt to defend his title against crafty grappling whiz Demian. The third, and biggest by a mile, will occur at light heavyweight, where champion Daniel Cormier will take on his fiercest rival – and the only man he’s lost to – Jon Jones.

Last night, in the main event of UFC 213, Australia’s Robert Whittaker collided with Cuba’s Yoel Romero in an interim middleweight title fight. While Romero started strong, Whittaker stole the momentum in round three, and battered his foe to an impressive, unanimous decision win. With this result, Whittaker becomes the UFC interim middleweight champion. He is expected to take on undisputed champion Michael Bisping – who joined him in the cage post-fight – sometime in the near future.

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2017

Last night, in the main event of UFC 213, Cuba’s Yoel Romero collided with Australia’s Robert Whittaker for the UFC’s interim middleweight title. As this interim title battle raged, the undisputed champion – and Romero’s biggest critic – Michael Bisping watched on from cage-side. Mid-way through the fight, Bisping did his best to throw Romero off his game by withdrawing a small, Cuban flag from his pocket, ripping it up, and throwing the shreds in Romero’s direction. While this questionable outburst didn’t generate much of a reaction from Romero during the fight, he absolutely reacted to it at the post-fight press conference.

Valentina Shevchenko got a sizeable payday despite Nunes' withdrawal

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2017

If things had gone according the original plan, Kyrgyzstan’s Valentina Shevchenko would have collided with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 213 last night. Regrettably, Nunes was forced out of this anticipated contest on the very day of battle. Though there was some brief talk of strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk stepping in to replace the bantamweight champion, this backup plan fizzled out, and Shevchenko was unfortunately left without a fight. This, of course, is tremendously unfortunate, as Shevchenko invested a good deal of time and money into her preparations for Nunes. According to UFC President Dana White, however, the Kyrgyzstani striking specialist will not leave Vegas empty handed, as she has been compensated for her troubles with an amount of roughly $70k.
