Dana White gives possible date for Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou fight

Last night, in the co-main event of the stacked UFC 218, surging French heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou picked up the best win of his career thus far, knocking out the always dangerous Alistair Overeem in the very first round. With this win, the streaking contender seems to have set himself up for a shot at UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter post-fight, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Ngannou will get the next shot at the belt, and suggested that the fight could headline UFC 220 this January 20 in Boston.

Last night, the UFC touched down in Detroit, Michigan with UFC 218. One of the highlights of this action-packed card, which was easily one of the best of the year, was Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje’s lightweight slobber-knocker. Though Gaethje certainly had his moments in this fight, he wound up losing in the third when Alvarez landed a rocket-fuelled knee on his chin. This loss is not only Gaethje’s first in the UFC’s Octagon, but his first ever, period.

Last night, in the main event of the stacked UFC 218, UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway defended his title for the first time, authoring a second consecutive win over featherweight great Jose Aldo. While this was a fantastic victory for Holloway, he did appear to endure a pretty rough cut down to the featherweight division’s 145-pound limit. Speaking at the UFC 218 post-fight press conference, the champ acknowledged this rough cut, and admitted that we could see him win titles in heavier divisions in the future. In fact, he hopes to win titles in many, many of the UFC’s toughest divisions.

Last night, on the main card of the absolutely wild UFC 218, red hot heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou picked up the biggest win of his career, executing Alistair Overeem with a first-round uppercut. With this win, Ngannou seems to have positioned himself for a shot at Stipe Miocic and the UFC heavyweight title. In the opinion of UFC President Dana White, he’s also on the cusp of becoming an international rock star.

She is trying to close the distance on Casey. Cortney lands a nice combination that ends in a leg kick. Both women seem cool with trading leather early. Casey is countering well early. She lands a nice combination that ends in an overhand right. Herrig paws with her jab. She throws a leg kick that lands. Casey with a right hand but she gets countered beautifully be Herrig. Casey returns fire with a combination that lands. Herrig presses forward and pushes Casey up against the cage. She is able to drag Cortney to the floor and immediately moves to half guard. Casey is doing a good job of defending here. She attempts a kimura and uses the submission to escape and get back up to her feet. Herrig with a jab to the body followed by a low kick. Casey and Herrig trade bombs to end round one.

A women’s strawweight scrap between Amanda Cooper and Angela Magana served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC 218 Fight Pass Prelims in Detroit, Michigan. Round one begins and Cooper immediately takes the center of the octagon. Magana lands a nice leg kick and then another. Cooper lands a left hand and then a right over the top. Magana fires back with a crisp jab. Amanda switches to southpaw and then right back to orthodox. Amanda with a nice jab. Magana throws a kick but Amanda catches it and presses her against the fence. Cooper with a takedown attempt but Magana clearly grabs the fence and stays up. More pressure from Cooper and she gets Magana to the floor. Amada immediately moves to mount and then transitions to the back of Magana. Angela rolls and Cooper winds up on top and in half guard. Magana scrambles and gets back to full guard. A big elbow now from Cooper. She moves into half guard and lands a pair of left hands. She traps one of Magana’s arms and begins raining down punishment. Cooper takes Magan’s back and locks in a choke. She lets go and begins working in more shots. Somehow Magana is able to survive round one.
