Jose Aldo is Ready to Walk Away From the UFC As Soon As Possible
Justin Golightly - January 2, 2018
The accomplishments of Jose Aldo speak for themselves. For a decade, he reigned supreme over the featherweight division; through the WEC, the UFC, and the entire world. Much like the pioneers of BJ Penn and Jens Pulver before him did with lightweight, he put the 145-pound class on the map and made people tune in to see his dominance, frightening speed and crushing leg kicks. After such a long time at the top, and losing his title twice, Aldo is finally wanting to part ways with the UFC according to his coach Andres Pederneiras. “We’re still talking to see how much [Jose Aldo] wants to keep fighting or not. I think Aldo’s career is a career that nobody can talk badly about. He can do whatever he wants. To retire, to continue, to make a superfight. He is thinking. He is a guy who has managed to make a lot of money over the course of his career and he can retire today without depending on anyone. He will never go hungry in his life. He invested his money, he knew how to save it. I’ve never heard him talk about stopping. I think Aldo has been at it for a long time, in a very continuous time. I think Aldo could take a vacation and feel that motivation to return. I already talked to him, but he wants to end the UFC contract as soon as possible.”

Justin Golightly - January 2, 2018
We’re still dealing with all of the fallout from UFC 219 as we step into 2018. Usually after a big fight, the questions pour in of what’s next for whoever took the victory. Cris Cyborg faced her biggest challenge yet in Holly Holm, yet still perceived and proved her dominance over an opponent that no one can poke holes in anymore. Instead of enjoying this victory and moving on to potentially getting a deal done with Megan Anderson for her next featherweight title defense, she was battling it out with a photographer who made some insulting and controversial comments on his Instagram. After a campaign to get his to apologize, he finally issued one. However, Cyborg issued a caveat. “I accept the apology and hope Dana White and the UFC listen to my request to no longer grant you a credential to any UFC events. You were unprofessional and if you photographed any other professional sport such as the WNBA, you would lose access to work those events. With so many photographers able to remain professional at events, you do not deserve their space in the company.” — Cris Cyborg in reply to photographer Mark Aragon’s Instagram apology.

PHOTO | The two men behind one of the greatest scraps in UFC history got friendly at UFC 219
Tom Taylor - January 1, 2018
Back in December of 2016, Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi co-authored one of the most legendary slugfests in the history of the UFC, nay in the history of MMA outright. For three frenzied rounds, the two featherweights pelted each other with the kind of heavy artillery that would have flatlined lesser men. It was a war for the ages, a classic clash between veteran and prospect, an unforgettable display of ferocity, grit, and heart. In the end, of course, Swanson would win this fight by unanimous decision – though both he and Choi left the Octagon battled and bloodied. Despite the fact that they once fought like they were the worst of enemies, it’s clear that Swanson and Choi’s war was nothing personal. Having both been invited to UFC 219 as guest fighters, the two featherweight fan favorites posed for a picture together in the bleachers, offering nothing but smiles a little over a year after they attempted to beat each other toothless.
