Cody Garbrandt breaks silence after second knockout loss to TJ Dillashaw

Last night, in the main event of the action-packed UFC 227 card, former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt attempted to reclaim the title from the main he lost it to, TJ Dillashaw. Unfortunately for Garbrandt and his legions of fans, this fight did not go as planned, as he was put down by a Dillashaw punch and finished with volley of followup strikes in the first frame. With this outcome, Garbrandt is now 0-2 opposite the current champion, with both of those losses coming by way of knockout. To say he’s in a tough spot would be an understatement.

Shortly after he shocked the world be yanking the title from the waist of dominating UFC flyweight sensation Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, Henry Cejudo called for a champion vs. champion fight with bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw. Speaking at the UFC 227 post-fight press conference, Dillashaw responded to this ballsy callout from the new flyweight champion Henry Cejudo.

Last night, in the main event of UFC 227, UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw defended his title against the very man he won it from, former UFC bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt. Just as he did in their first fight, which co-headlined UFC 217 in November, Dillashaw won this fight by knockout — but this time he did it even faster. Now 0-2 against the current champion, with both losses coming by way of knockout, the future looks nebulous for Garbrandt. Although he remains an incredibly dangerous challenge for most fighters, he will have to move mountains in order to earn another title shot as long as Dillashaw is king.

Long time UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson put his 125-pound title on the line against Henry Cejudo in the co-headliner of tonight’s UFC 227 event in Los Angeles. The fight served as a title fight rematch, as “Mighty Mouse” had previously defeated Cejudo via first-round TKO at UFC 197 in April of 2016.

Unfortunately, Poirier’s win was shadowed by a bit of controversy. Moments before Poirier poured on the offence to get the TKO, Alvarez had him in full-mount against the cage. After Alvarez grabbed the fence, clawed Poirier’s ear, and landed a 12-6 elbow — all illegal maneuvers — referee Marc Goddard stood the pair up and re-set them in the standing position.
