A light heavyweight bout between Thiago Santos and Eryk Anders served as the headliner of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 137 event in Sao Paulo. Thiago Santos was initially scheduled to meet Jimi Manuwa at the event, replacing former title challenger Glover Teixeira who was forced to pullout with an injury. However, Manuwa would also suffer an injury and thus had to be replaced by perennial middleweight contender Eryk Anders.

Oliveira (18-4-1 MMA) was most recently seen in action at April’s UFC on FOX event where he scored a submission victory over former UFC interim welterweight title holder Carlos Condit.

Sam Alvey enters tonight’s fight having won three of his past four octagon appearances. His latest victory came over Gian Villante via split-decision at June’s UFC Fight Night event in Utica.

Renan Barao (34-6 MMA) entered tonight’s contest having lost four of his past five fights. Prior to that Barao was on an amazing hot streak that saw him go 20-1.

A welterweight scrap between Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Luigi Vendramini served as the second bout of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 137 event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In the second round, Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos was able to connect with a huge flying knee that had Luigi Vendramini staggering in retreat. From there, Elizeu landed a plethora of punches that eventually caused Luigi to hit the canvas and the referee to step in and stop the contest.

At Thursday’s UFC 229 press conference, former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor assured that Khabib Nurmagomedov would be dead if he’d dared to step off the bus during their infamous April skirmish in Brooklyn. “If you’d have got off that bus you’d be dead now,” McGregor told Nurmagomedov. “You’d be dead and I’d be in a cell.”

There is no question about it. The top fighters in the UFC make a pretty penny, while the fighters competing on the prelims often struggle to get by. This has been a huge concern for several fighters, some of whom have attempted to start a fighter’s union to improve things, though these efforts have not gained much traction. South Dakota native Devin Clark falls into this second category of fighters. He is currently not ranked and isn’t fighting the kind of big fights that will improve his pay. That being said, the card does have dynamite co-main event, which will pit Dustin Poirier against Nate Diaz in a lightweight bout that is brimming with title implications. Speaking on Twitter on Thursday, Dustin Poirier made a suggestion that would seem to give his fight with Diaz enough oomph that it could serve as the UFC 230 main event. He suggested the fight could be contested at 165 pounds — for the championship of a new 165-pound division.
