On Saturday night, the UFC made it’s first stop of the year in Brazil with the 13-fight UFC Fortaleza card. Headlining the card was a battle of two top bantamweight contenders in Raphael Assuncao and Marlon Moraes. Ultimately, Moraes submitted Assuncao in the first round to become the clear cut number one contender in the bantamweight division.

As always, the fans in the building were incredibly excited and passionate — so much so that former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor now wants to fight in the country. What an amazing atmosphere at UFC Brazil tonight.I would LOVE to compete there for all the passionate Brazilian fans at some stage of my career.I was so close to securing a bout in Rio last year. Last night, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships (BKFC) — not to be confused with WBKFF — touched down in Cancun, Mexico with BKFC 4. The card was billed as a USA vs. Mexico event, as each matchup pitted an American fighter against a Mexican fighter or fighter of Mexican heritage. In the main event, all-action UFC veteran Leonard Garcia made a return to the ring against infamous Ultimate Fighter veteran Julian Lane. Leonard Garcia won this BKFC 4 main event showdown by second round knockout.

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC Fortaleza on ESPN+, former UFC featherweight champ and bona fide MMA legend Jose Aldo picked up another huge win, this time at the expense of Renato Moicano, who he dispatched with a volley of second-round punches. This victory generated reactions from many MMA stars — including several of Aldo’s rivals in Conor McGregor, Brian Ortega, Alexander Volkanovski and reigning featherweight champ Max Holloway.

Speaking on Twitter after the fight, the Irish MMA star shared his thoughts on the passionate fans that turn up for the UFC’s cards in Brazil, and announced that he hopes to compete in the country before his career draws to a close.

Former UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo scored a second-round TKO victory over Renato Moicano at tonight’s UFC Fortaleza event. Aldo was able to catch Moicano with a beautiful counter punch that had Renato in all sorts of trouble. From there, Jose Aldo would fire off some ruthless body shots which prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight.

Earlier this week, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) convened to decide the fates of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, who were involved in a hectic, post-fight brawl after their UFC 229 contest. Conor McGregor was handed a $50,000 fine and six month suspension. Khabib Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, was hit with a much heavier $500,000 fine and a nine-month suspension, though this suspension can be reduced to six months if completes an anti-bullying public service announcement.

Earlier this week, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) handed hefty punishments to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor for their roles in the frenzied brawl that followed their UFC 229 fight.  Nurmagomedov was handed a $500,000 fine and a nine-month ban, which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying PSA. McGregor, meanwhile, received a lighter six-month suspension and $50,000 fine.

Until very recently, former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm was expected to fight Aspen Ladd at UFC 235 on March 2. Then, at last night’s UFC 235 press conference, UFC President Dana White casually dropped the news that Holm would not be competing on the card after all. In the wake of this news, many members of the MMA community guessed that Holly Holm could be reallocated to a title fight with Amanda Nunes, who currently owns the UFC bantamweight and featherweight belts. Brazilian publication Combate is reporting that this is indeed the case.
