Colby Covington reacts to Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz 2 announcement: “Two complete washouts”

By Josh Evanoff - March 18, 2024

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington doesn’t have anything good to say about Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz.

Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal

Earlier this month, ‘Gamebred’ made his return to combat sports official. Jorge Masvidal famously retired following a loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 last April, his fifth defeat in a row. However, he will now be making a return to the boxing ring. On June 1st on pay-per-view, Masvidal will meet former rival, Nate Diaz.

Much like Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz left the UFC for boxing back in 2022. The Stockton slugger put forth an entertaining fight against Jake Paul last August but lost by unanimous decision. Now, Diaz will return to the ring to rekindle his rivalry with ‘Gamebred’, and score his first win since leaving MMA.

However, not everyone is a fan of Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz 2. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Colby Covington gave his thoughts on the boxing announcement. Predictably, ‘Chaos’ tore into both men, labeling them ‘washouts’, and that they couldn’t cut it in the UFC. Covington also slammed Masvidal for his ongoing feud with Chael Sonnen.

Colby Covington’s brutal comments don’t come as a big surprise. The former interim UFC champion famously fought Jorge Masvidal in March 2022, handing ‘Gamebred’ a unanimous decision loss. Weeks later, Covington was attacked by his friend-turned-foe outside of a Miami steakhouse.  Masvidal later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault charges last November.

“I mean, just two complete washouts of the UFC that are you know, 40 years old. They should be in retirement homes.” Colby Covington responded when asked about Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz 2 in the interview with Submission Radio. “They’re sloppy old f*cking dudes that can’t perform in the UFC any more at this high elite level like me at the top of the division. They’re both f*cking, got 10 seconds of fame in the UFC and are living off these fights from 10 years ago.”

He continued, “So, let them go and do their thing. If the UFC is signing off on it, I’m all about whatever the UFC signs off on. I could care less about Jorge. But he needs to stop talking to my big brother Chael though, man. Guys, that’s the real fight. Why is he talking to Chael? Everyone saw what I did to Jorge, it was the easiest fight of my life. I smacked that little scrub around and f*cking spoke in his ear and told him he’s my little brother.”

“Imagine if my big brother, uncle Chael, ‘The American Gangster’, the biggest biceps in martial arts industry. Imagine if he got ahold of him.” Colby Covington concluded. “Chael would f*cking squash Jorge like a little f*cking bug… Who gives a f*ck about that scrub ass boxing fight.”
