Jon Jones was able to reclaim his UFC light heavyweight championship at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, by defeating Daniel Cormier via third-round knockout. After two very closely contested rounds with “DC”, Jones was able to land a beautiful head kick in round three which left Cormier on wobbly legs and in all sorts of trouble. From there, “Bones” would get Cormier to the ground where he unleashed some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call the contest.

A light heavyweight title fight rematch between current champ Daniel Cormier and former title holder Jon Jones served as the main event of tonight’s UFC 214 fight card in Anaheim, California. Round one begins and Jones lands a hard low kick. He lands a right hand and then a left. Jones starting off quickly. Cormier lands a massive uppercut that knocks the mouth guard out of Jon Jones. The referee hands it to him. Jones lands a takedown but Cormier scrambles and they are back up. Jones with a left hand. Cormier replies with one of his own. Jones with a nice shot to the body. He lands a kick to the thigh. Cormier presses forward. Jones fakes a kick. He throws a low kick. He lands a left and then throws Cormier in to the fence. Another good jab and then a low kick from Jones. He lands a hard knee to the mid section. DC comes forward and lands a pair of low kicks. He follows that up with a right hand. Jones replies with a low kick of his own. Cormier circles and returns fire. Jones with a good kick to the body. He follows that up with an elbow. Jones with a nice right hand over the top. Jones with a left hand and then a front kick. DC replies with a low kick. Jones comes over the top with an elbow. DC misses with a wild right but then lands a low kick. Jones fires back with a low kick of his own. DC with a nice left hand. He presses forward and lands a right. Jones fires back with a pair of left hands. DC comes forward and lands a pair of big punches. Jones showboats but then eats a right hand. Cormier with some low kicks and then one to the body. Jones returns fire with a low kick. Round one comes to an end.

Thursday afternoon at the UFC 214 media day, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones came face to face for yet another heated staredown ahead of their scrap on Saturday. Jon Jones, in an effort to make a statement about the physique of Cormier, hit the stage shirtless for the staredown. When the two men came face to face, they remained silent for most of the staredown as they locked eyes. Jones then appeared to say something to Cormier under his breath, that was not picked up by cameras.

Daniel Cormier is set to defend his UFC light heavyweight title and will look to avenge the only loss of his professional MMA career against rival Jon Jones on Saturday in the main event of UFC 214. Both men have made weight and the bout is official for the what many are claiming the best card of the year, thus far. Ahead of the fight, the stars took to the UFC 214 open workouts where Jones opted to just sign autographs for fans. Cormier did an open workout for fans and media and cut an exceptional promotion that had his fans pumped.

In UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s most recent fight, the champ caught quite a bit of criticism when he weighed in 1.2 pounds over the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds for his title defense with Anthony Johnson. Cormier then reemerged just moments later and pressed down on the privacy towel to offset his weight, in order to make weight without cutting the weight. This weekend, in the main event of UFC 214, former light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound great Jon Jones will attempt to reclaim the title he never actual lost opposite dominant reigning champion Daniel Cormier. The bout stands out as the biggest of the year thus far, and pretty much everybody has an opinion on it. One of the latest members of the MMA community to share their opinion on the fight was three-time UFC title challenger, current Bellator star, and perennial soundbite-generator Chael Sonnen. Sonnen, who lost a title fight against Jones in 2013, gave his take on the fight in an interview with Duane Finley of FloCombat.

In the buildup to this fight, much has been made of Jones’ last-minute withdrawal from July 2016’s UFC 200, when he was last scheduled to meet Cormier. UFC President Dana White in particular has had plenty to say about the former champ’s withdrawal from the card. And apparently, Jones is getting tired of it. Speaking with Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, Jones explained that he is giving the UFC boss the silent treatment.

If you saw the first official promo for UFC 214, which is headlined by a light heavyweight grudge match between champ Daniel Cormier and challenger Jon Jones, you probably noticed that it did not portray Jones especially well. Instead, it detailed Jones many recent indiscretions in rapid succession. During the official UFC 214 media conference call, which occurred earlier this week, Jones addressed the tone of this promo. At first, the former champ said, he wasn’t especially keen on it. Since then, however, he’s come to appreciate it and embrace the bad guy image he’s been painted with.
