Dustin Poirier breaks silence after Public Drunk arrest: ‘Working on myself’

Future UFC Hall of Famer Dustin Poirier was arrested over the weekend for public intoxication in Atlanta and faces a misdemeanor charge.

Less than a year after his UFC 318 retirement, Dustin Poirier ran into trouble with the law on Father’s Day.

Poirier, who ended his fighting career following a loss to Max Holloway at UFC 318, was arrested on a ‘Public Drunk’ misdemeanor charge while in Atlanta on Sunday night. Former UFC fighter Ben Askren later shared a video of Poirier play-fighting another man at an airport bar just before he was arrested.

News of Poirier’s arrest was first reported by TMZ.

As of this writing, local police haven’t shared details of Poirier’s arrest, and the former UFC superstar was released on bond. He faces up to one year in prison and/or a fine if convicted of the misdemeanor charge.

Of note: Poirier has no prior criminal history. Despite brushing aside calls for a potential comeback, Poirier has repeatedly admitted how much he misses fighting, as exemplified in a recent interview with Full Send MMA.

“Some days I’m great, some days I’m not,” Poirier admitted.

“Love you all I’m working on myself,” Poirier said.

Poirier is regarded by many as one of the greatest fighters to never win an undisputed title in UFC history. He defeated the likes of Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Max Holloway during his illustrious career.

Since retiring, Poirier has appeared frequently as an analyst for Paramount+’s UFC coverage and a co-host of the Deep Waters podcast alongside Jorge Masvidal, Chris Weidman, and Din Thomas.
