Georges St-Pierre suggests Conor McGregor make one major camp change ahead of UFC 329 comeback

UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre believes Conor McGregor needs to shake up his camp for his long-awaited Octagon return.
After five years away from the Octagon, former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor will make the walk against Max Holloway at UFC 329 next month. McGregor hasn’t fought since injuring his leg against Dustin Poirier in their UFC 264 trilogy, and many questions remain regarding McGregor’s place in Mixed Martial Arts.
McGregor has touted a refined mindset as one of the biggest reasons for his return to the Octagon later this year. He’s hinted at numerous battles he’s won outside of the Octagon in recent years, and newfound faith in his religion has proven to be a catalyst behind his comeback.
During his meteoric UFC rise, McGregor was a nonstop grinder in the gym, a pattern he’s looking to replicate ahead of UFC 329. UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre, who had a successful comeback in the UFC against Michael Bisping following a long absence, believes McGregor needs to get back to his old form in the gym.
Georges St-Pierre suggests the ‘right way’ for Conor McGregor to prep for UFC 329
In a recent interview with The Break Talk, St-Pierre suggested that McGregor should relinquish control of his training camp to give him the best chance at success at UFC 329.
“You know, we talk about fighters that try to make a comeback sometimes, like Conor McGregor is going to try to make a comeback,” St-Pierre said of McGregor.
“I think if he wants to be successful, because it’s hard once you made it—you’re a millionaire, you wake up in a nice bed, warm—to go back into a discomfort zone, but you need to be willing to do that.
“You need to be willing to go through an army of guys that are waiting for you in the gym to kick your a–,” St-Pierre continued. “You need to go through that in order to prepare yourself the best you can for what the fight will be. And sometimes if you’re wealthy, you’re the boss, you decide the conditions on which you will be put into. I don’t think it’s the right way.” (h/t MMA Fighting)
While it’s uncertain how often McGregor will spar ahead of UFC 329, St-Pierre believes it’ll be a huge difference-maker in giving him the best chance at success. If McGregor is victorious next month against Holloway, it’ll be regarded as one of the most miraculous comebacks in combat sports history.
