UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre believes it would be wise if Justin Gaethje wraps up his pro MMA career coming off his biggest athletic achievement.

Gaethje took center stage in the UFC Freedom 250 headliner against Ilia Topuria. The general consensus is that it would be Gaethje last chance at becoming an undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. “The Highlight” made the most of his opportunity, forcing Topuria to quit on his stool to earn the fourth-round TKO finish.

During his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Gaethje didn’t commit to his fighting future due to a promise he made to his mother. Later on during an appearance on the “JRE MMA Show,” the newly-minted unified lightweight king said he’s leaning towards sticking around.

St-Pierre discussed Gaethje’s future during a new edition of “The Break Talk.” The welterweight legend shared his belief that “The Highlight” should retire as he has nothing left to prove (h/t MMAJunkie).

“He’s the kind of guy that works really hard and he comes back from adversity,” St-Pierre said. “It’s really inspiring to see what he has accomplished. You might not like what I’m going to say, but if I were him, because I like him, retirement. I heard Demetrious Johnson said it, but that’s what I would do. That would be an amazing ending. What else does he want to accomplish? He did it all.”

St-Pierre retired from pro MMA competition after defeating Michael Bisping to capture the UFC Middleweight Championship. St-Pierre is widely regarded as the most decorated UFC welterweight titleholder, and he ended his career having achieved the rare status of winning gold in two weight classes.

Do you agree with Georges St-Pierre? Should Justin Gaethje strongly consider retirement after finally capturing undisputed UFC gold, or should the 37-year-old continue trading leather? Share your opinion in the comments below.
