UFC flyweight contender Manel Kape has his eyes on a big UFC record after his triumph over Kyoji Horiguchi last weekend.

On Saturday night, Manel Kape took a huge step towards a UFC flyweight title shot when he defeated and finished Kyoji Horiguchi. The two fought almost a decade ago and on that occasion, it was Horiguchi who got a submission win – but he couldn’t repeat his heroics this time around.

For Kape, this serves as the biggest statement yet that he is ready to go up against Joshua Van, someone he has been going back and forth with verbally for quite some time.

In his post-fight scrum, Kape spoke candidly about something else that he has on his mind for the remainder of his UFC tenure.

Kape looks towards UFC knockout record

“Most knockouts with the least fights,” Kape told MMA Junkie post-fight at UFC Fight Night 279. “Imagine the other fights when guys pull out, if the fights had still gone on. I could’ve had more knockouts because I think I only have (11) fights in UFC with six knockouts. It’s a good average. I want to pass Derrick Lewis. I want to pass the record of Derrick Lewis, and I know I can do this.”

Given that Lewis is currently sitting on 16 knockouts, this is the definition of a tall order for Manel. Still, he’s someone who is going out there and putting on bangers every single time he competes, and given that he’s on the verge of a championship opportunity, critics don’t have a lot to hit back at him over right now.
