Dustin Poirier teases Justin Gaethje trilogy in classy message after UFC White House

Recently retired UFC legend Dustin Poirier could potentially be on his way back to the Octagon to face two-time foe Justin Gaethje.

After two previously failed attempts to win undisputed gold, Justin Gaethje climbed the lightweight mountaintop by defeating Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 to win the UFC lightweight championship. It was one of the most stunning upsets in UFC history as Gaethje battered and left Topuria almost unrecognizable as the defeated champion left the Octagon.

The 38-year-old Gaethje will now decide whether or not to continue fighting after hinting at a looming retirement decision in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. Top contender Arman Tsarukyan is Gaethje’s likely next opponent if he opts to defend the UFC lightweight belt.

Gaethje’s championship win came less than a year after his two-time foe, Dustin Poirier, announced his retirement at UFC 318. But Poirier has since hinted he could return to combat sports for a boxing match against longtime adversary Nate Diaz.

Add Gaethje to the list, as Poirier hinted in a recent social media post that got fans excited.

In a recent tweet, Poirier responded to a fan who asked if he would come out of retirement to fight Gaethje after watching UFC Freedom 250.

“Yes but first things first, Justin Gaethje you are a savage!!!” Poirier tweeted.

“Congratulations on everything. It was inspiring to be there in person and watch you put on a masterful performance and turn your dream into reality, undisputed!

“Nothing but respect for you.”

Since announcing his retirement at UFC 318, Poirier has become one of the UFC’s top television analysts, a role he’s relished since hanging up the gloves. But Poirier has also admitted that he’s struggled mentally since retiring, and hasn’t completely ruled out an eventual return.

As of this writing, Gaethje hasn’t responded to Poirier’s tweet.
