Though Page had some success early in this fight, Douglas Lima put a decisive end to things in the second frame, levelling his foe with a rocket-fuelled uppercut to the chin.

Speaking on Twitter on Sunday, Lima issued a quick statement on the victory. A man of few words, the Brazilian thanked his fans for the love and set his sights on the Bellator welterweight title he once owned.

“Appreciate all the love! On to the title! Thank you God!” – Douglas Lima on Twitter

Michael Page, who has now tasted defeat for the first time, has also issued a post-fight statement on social media. The formerly undefeated Brit was extremely classy in defeat, praising his foe for his handiwork.

“If I had to take 1 L in my career I’m glad it was to this warrior @phenomlima an amazing martial artist and person.
I felt like I was in control the whole fight, made a mistake by standing up incorrectly and at this level it only takes 1 bad choice, and I paid for it.

But im still smiling and even more motivated to get back in the cage and correct this mistake.

Thank you to everyone that have sent such positive messages and another thank you to the haters fuelling my drive just like Arnold Schwarzenegger “I’ll be back” – Michael Page on Instagram.
